Data Scientist (remote)
Description of specific duties in a typical workday for this position:
OST supports government customers in ground breaking and meaningful work including: disaster response through FEMA’s National Flood Insurance Program disaster response, Space Force, radio frequency monitoring through FAA Spectrum, virtual training for the Army through PEO STRI, etc. Our Data Science Team, under OST’s Strategy and Business Performance Group, provides critical analytical support to our customers and project team members for their data-driven decision making journeys. Data analysis is the backbone for helping our customer’s achieve their missions and “future” technologies (like AI/ML) will take them to the next level. As an integral part of the Data Science Team, you will provide analytical support to our customers and solution delivery teams.
Your duties will include but not limited to;
- Collect and prepare large data sets, analyze and visualize to gain insights and trends, report and present the analysis results, and maintain databases and information by using OST’s analytical technology stack
- Support Agile teams to optimize their processes, and enable the added value delivery by employing continuous improvement process and data analytics, including root-cause analysis, goal setting, statistical monitoring, predictive modeling, simulation and risk analysis
- As an analytics SME for OST’s Center of Engineering and Innovation (CoEI) Unit, support the development of analytics / artificial intelligence-machine learning (AI/ML) solutions for the business use cases
- Support Data Governance as a data steward/custodian by defining KPIs for measurement analysis, maintaining measurement and analysis repository, updating data definitions & metadata, defining data standards, and monitoring data quality
- As a member of analytics training team, promote analytics as a disruptive technology of today; prepare course catalogs & materials, and provide trainings to OSTians and our clients
- Enhance your communications and technical skills by attending OST University provided training, online courses, webinars, workshops and conferences
- Represent OST in seminars and conferences
Position Requirements:
- Education: BA or BS degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or other related field
- Quantitative skills: Analytical and problem solving aptitude, demonstrated experience on conducting end-to-end analytics; data ingestion, engineering, analysis and presentation by using computer skills, including minimum 3-year experience and demonstrated experience on;
- Ingestion of data from multiple sources
- Data preparation – data cleaning and tidying
- Data modeling with relational and non-relational databases
- Descriptive and inferential statistics experience, including hypothesis testing, multi-variate data analysis and exploratory data analysis
- Data warehousing, predictive and prescriptive modeling, including artificial intelligence / machine learning techniques, optimization, simulation and multi-criteria decision analysis
- Technical skills: Minimum 3-year experience and demonstrated knowledge on using software tools, including;
- Conducting analysis and developing analytics/AI/ML applications with cloud data management and analytics platforms such as AWS or Azure,
- Conducting data engineering by using Data Extraction, Transforming and Loading (ETL) tools, such as Excel and statistical software such as R, Python data wrangling libraries and other statistical packages,
- Querying data with tools such as MS SQL, Aurora, PostgreSQL, and MySQL,
- Statistical tools, such as R or Python statistical & machine learning libraries, Minitab, SAS JMP, SPSS and @Risk,
- Performing simulation with Monte Carlo / process engineering simulation tools such as Arena, Simul8,
- Visualizing and reporting with tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, Qlik, R Shiny, Python Plotly and Java D3,
- MS Office tools
- Research skills: Undertake in-depth research, quantify the information and produce qualitative and quantitative reports and presentations
- Communication and Presentation skills: Verbal and written communication skills to converse and collaborate with all levels of employees, present the analysis findings and technical matters clearly via reports and oral presentations to clients and senior management
- Organizational skills: Work under tight schedules, effectively manage and prioritize multiple work assignments
- Learning skills: Eager to ask questions, ability to take guidance and provide feedback, eager to learn and advance technical knowledge and skills
- Team work abilities: Work effectively in a team oriented environment, as well as independently in a fast-paced, and changing environment
- Attention to detail: Pay meticulous attention to detail, factor every piece that might alter the validity of data and analysis results
- US CITIZENSHIP is Required
Nice to Have:
- MS degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or other related field
- Minimum 5-year experience in running full data science lifecycle, including for big data analytics
- Six Sigma green belt or higher certification
- Minimum 5-year experience on data warehousing and advanced analytics
- Certifications for AWS and Azure, and open big data analytics platforms
- Familiarity with Internet of Things (IoT) applications
- Familiarity with data management / data governance best practices
- Knowledge on CMMI models and Agile concepts
- Client facing experience
