The Department of Environmental Conservation needs a database architect to work on data architecture analysis, solution designing and providing support for the Uniform Information System (UIS) Enhancement project in the Division of Environmental Remediation (DER). This project is being undertaken to address critical application issues and required enhancements to UIS, including a transformation to new Platform (Win 2016 ) and incorporation of Single Sign On process. Primarily staff will be responsible to design system architecture and writing complex stored procedures, streamlining legacy database structures and processes for better data integrity, and enhancing code to meet OITS standards.
The database architect will be responsible for designing and maintaining MS SQL databases, reviewing database performance, and optimizing existing processes. This individual will perform analytical and technical tasks to develop advanced complex SQL based solutions. This individual will also provide ad-hoc production support for the existing database needs.
- Build complex SQL queries, stored procedures, functions, views, and reports.
- Understand the business needs and work with developers to design modern and effective database architectures.
- Analyze functional requirements to perform ad-hoc Extract, Transform and Load (ETL) processes involving data analysis, data manipulation and setting up SSIS packages
- Review performance logs to track and analyze production issues, identify and eliminate obsolete DB objects, and optimize stored procedures and jobs to improve database responsiveness.
- Participate in unit and regression testing by assisting business analysis team to mine and translate complex dataset.
- Work with data modelling team to draft/maintain system data model and data dictionary. Establish standards for system documentation and advise other team members.
- Participate in planning and transformation of UIS to new platform.
- Participate in data integration activities for PBS E-Registration and for mobile field inspection project.
Position Requirements:
- 7 years experience in design and development of advanced SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, scripts, cursors, and views
- 7 years experience in MS SQL Server Management Studio (MS SQL Server version 2012 , and upgrade to MS SQL 2019) and proficient use of standard business and database software (including SSRS, SSMS, SSIS), and strong understanding of ETL concepts (Extract, Transform and Load)
- 7 years of experience in designing data architecture and data modelling (data dictionary and system documentation), including the ongoing maintenance of an existing data model
- 7 years of experience supporting day-to-day database operations, including: monitoring and maintenance, problem investigation and resolution, backup creation and maintenance, database optimization, tuning, consolidating views and tracking and improving database performance metrics
- 5 years of experience with geocoding processes (importing GIS data to database, data modeling) and experience with Geographic Information Systems (i.e. ArcGIS Pro, Google Maps)
