Otter Tail County is accepting applications for Accountant positions. The purpose of this position is to perform the accounting function for an assigned area or service team. Work is generally limited in complexity to a specific type of task or department, but requires independent judgement. Accountants are responsible for examining, accounting for, reconciling, analyzing, and interpreting accounting data and records. Assists in performing the more difficult and complex journal entries. Responsible for transactions and accounting reconciliations to ensure compliance with complicated regulatory requirements (e.g. cost accounting, human services accounting, GASB lease and SBITA accounting, asset accounting, HUD, etc.). There are currently two positions open, one will focus on Accountant tasks for the Health & Wellness team and the other will focus on general Accountant tasks for the Auditor-Treasurer's department.

Prepares reports for internal use and external regulatory submissionsSubmits regulatory reportsAssists with audit preparationComposes correspondenceProvides information in accordance with data privacy regulationsAssists with budget preparation and monitoringCreates cash basis adjusting journal entriesCreates modified and full accrual journal entries related to GASB requirementsRegulatory reporting and accounting, including year end accrual entriesPerforms filing/records retentionPerforms complex GASB related analysis of leases, SBITA, assetsReviews regulatory and grant reporting, and accounting transactions for accuracy and complianceResearches recommended practices and recommends process improvements to supervisor, as assignedServes as lead on implementing new software as assignedPrepares regular reports and analysis for Board of Commissioners or AdministrationPerforms General Ledger maintenanceAdministers County Wide Credit Cards, Gas Cards, Amazon Accounts, etc.May act as team lead in the absence of direct supervisor.May also assist with duties such as passport application processing, permits, website maintenance, and electionsMay assist with duties and responsibilities as outlined in the County Emergency Operations Plan and Continuity of Operations PlanPerforms other duties as assigned
