The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150 elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. Responsible for the general maintenance, cleanliness, and upkeep of a school facility. Effective, efficient and safe maintenance and upkeep of school buildings and grounds. Main duties include supervising the part-time janitorial staff and any outside contractors; communicating maintenance schedules and routines with the business manager and principal; routine and emergency upkeep of the school facilities and property. Knowledge of basic electrical, HVAC, plumbing, sanitation, sterilization, security, safety, energy management, and irrigation. A working position which is required to perform routine to mid-level maintenance functions.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the principal and business manager on the annual building plan and upkeep.
• Frequent communications with the principal and business manager to maintain open communications.
• Perform maintenance tasks.
• Supervision of janitorial staff.
• Serve as a resource to the staff on building operations matters.
• Revises schedules and operations as needed in coordination with the school calendar.
• Occasional evening/weekend assignments to support a school environment.
• Must understand the importance of school safety and be familiar and experienced in safety standards to protect students and staff at all times.
• Obtains bids and contracts for work unable to be performed by the staff. Coordinates all appointments for contractors with the Business Manager and Principal.
• Seeks Principal approval for all outside contract work.
• Maintains and beautifies the school grounds while keeping the safety of the children at the top of mind.
• Ensures school equipment is maintained and performs basic service functions on a schedule.
• Conducts periodic equipment maintenance checks including plumbing, electrical, mechanical, drainage, roof, security, and environmental functions
• Room setup and breakdown.

Experience

• Passionate about and committed to the Mission of the Archdiocese of Chicago and global Catholic Church.
• Must be able to climb ladders and lift 35 pounds
• High School or GED
• Knowledge and experience in general building maintenance. Knowledge of any of the following fields is a plus: HVAC, electrical, carpentry or plumbing.
