Job Summary:

The Outfest Legacy Project Manager plays a key role in the long-term planning and management of the Outfest UCLA Legacy Project, serving as the primary liaison between Outfest and UCLA Film & Television Archive on Legacy Project matters.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with Outfest and UCLA Film & Television Archive staff to identify potential preservation/restoration projects, develop the Legacy Project Collection, and enhance access to and awareness of the Legacy Project Collection.
  • Work closely with programming teams from Outfest and UCLA Film & Television Archive to organize Legacy Project screenings and events including the year-round Legacy Project Screening Series at the Billy Wilder Theater, Outfest Los Angeles, and Outfest Fusion QTBIPOC Film Festival.
  • Research and solicit moving image materials for the Legacy Project Collection from filmmakers, distributors, rights holders, etc. 
  • Logistically support the UCLA Film & Television Archive in facilitating donations/deposits to the Legacy Project Collection.
  • Manage the collection of copies of all programmatic moving image materials in Outfest’s festivals for deposit into the UCLA
  • In collaboration with the UCLA Film & Television Archive team, corresponds with vendors, Legacy Project donors/depositors, and/or rights holders in order to create budgets for proposed restoration work.
  • Organize and coordinate Legacy Project educational programming such as academic symposia, festival panels, printed literature, and virtual
  • Write/create educational outreach materials about the Legacy Project for filmmakers, researchers, and the general public.
  • Assist and advise on Legacy Project outreach, reports, and development opportunities.
  • Serve as ambassador for the Legacy Project at screenings, conferences, film festivals, and other events.
  • Assist in identifying funding opportunities and developing grant proposals.
  • Maintain correspondence with the Legacy Project Advisory Council, coordinate and run an annual meeting with the Council during Outfest Los Angeles.
  • Coordinate with Outfest’s Senior Team and communicate with the UCLA Film & Television leadership during the preparation for the annual Legacy Awards to ensure the program is properly highlighted at the event.


Qualifications:

  • Experience in film archival or other academic research. 
  • Experience organizing programs in an academic, film, or arts context. 
  • Technical knowledge of film and video formats and preservation.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQIA film history.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and follow-through.
  • Able to work well in a team and independently.
  • Commitment to working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations, genders, and ethnicities.
  • Familiar with Filemaker Pro, Excel, Word, and social media platforms.
  • Post-graduate degree in Library Sciences or Moving Image Archive Studies preferred; or equivalent work experience.
