PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Packaging Process Area Lead is responsible for global packaging operations support, best practice gathering and proliferation, and equipment design/definition that result in higher product quality, improved operational performance, and increased productivity for all product families manufactured in fiberglass insulation.
The Packaging Process Area Lead will work closely with Science and Technology, capital delivery, sourcing and the plant manufacturing teams.

Reports to: Focused Improvement Director, Fiberglass Technical Platforms – Global Insulation Center of Excellence
Span of Control: No direct reports.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Live the Safety stand, adhere to the safety responsibilities.
- Implement a personal safety action plan and review with leader
Lead, consult, and execute new packaging equipment and packaging improvement projects across Owens Corning’s business and manufacturing groups
- Develops a deep understanding of the dynamics between packaging systems and the finished goods properties.
- Collaborate with Central, Regional, and Factory Engineers to deliver new and enhance existing packaging systems to optimize OEE and product quality.
- Provide technical expertise to major capital projects that may include new factories, capacity expansion, and new product introductions.
- Minimize equipment downtime and failures by analyzing production data to determine indicators of impending system failure modes.
- Provide technical support to the operations and maintenance departments to help troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to automated packaging equipment, including PLC and HMI programs.
- Define system requirements and success criteria and recommend packaging equipment that meets safety requirements, best cost, and performance needs.
- Support plant maintenance and operations teams in packaging controls systems and equipment troubleshooting, and in technology transfer.
- Develops and leads both formal and informal training programs designed to teach personnel the operating and troubleshooting techniques for packaging equipment and controls systems
- Research, monitor, and assess new packaging equipment, in the market, that has potential application to Owens Corning.
- Has an awareness/knowledge of packaging equipment industry suppliers and technology trends relative to our business.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education Requirements - A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, etc) is required
- Technical Expertise – 5 years of experience in packaging operations or design including development and implementation of new packaging equipment.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Technology Leadership - Strong working knowledge of engineering design, machine and industry safety standards, and integrated system design with the ability to apply it to our manufacturing processes
- Project Leadership – Small to medium scale project management experience, including, but not limited to scope, schedule, cost, risk, resource, and change management.
- Communication - Clearly conveys relevant information and ideas with confidence and in a manner that inspires the audience
