Production Supervisor Role Highlights
Production Shift Supervisors are responsible for leading a diverse and talented manufacturing team. Your primary goal is to properly staff work centers and optimize workflow throughout the day. As the leader you take a positive approach, with a sense of urgency to remove roadblocks for your team so that they can complete their best work. You will direct, discipline, train, and assist operators and material handlers in a manufacturing setting. In this role incumbents will be accountable for the production process to ensure that it is carried out according to the KPI Key Performance Indictors, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures set by the Production Manager and/or Plant Manager. Production Shift Supervisor will assure that the machines are properly staffed with personnel and materials necessary to safely produce a quality product that meets the customer's needs based on Work Order requirements.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead by example in conduct, behavior and actions in accordance with Oxco core values of Caring, Creativity, Determination, Dependability and Teamwork
- Build relationships with team members demonstrating care and concern for their well being and success. Remove barriers and obstacles that prevent the team from accomplishing objectives.
- Relentless pursuit of safety throughout the facility taking prompt action to address any safety issues noticed by you or brought to your attention by the team.
- Responsible for implementing and training team on Continuous Improvement techniques including but not limited to (5S) housekeeping, Value Stream process mapping, waste reduction, root cause analysis and problem solving.
- Responsible for employee scheduling to include work assignments, employee training, cross training, vacations, employee breaks, and overtime assignment(s) and updating time and attendance system accordingly and accurately.
- Coordinate department responsibilities and activities in a manner that ensures all safety and quality standards will be met
- Help shift achieve company goals by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring, and evaluating results using daily management and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators)
- Enforce company policies and guidelines
- Implements cost-saving strategies and techniques and supports them daily
- Ensure that production plans are completed by a certain time working closely with Production Scheduler and Production Manager, and documenting and issues when shift goal are not met by each respective machine/operator.
- Counsel and coach employees on how to achieve an optimal output or workflow
- Resolve issues and disputes between employees
- Communicate with and assist other departments as needed
- Evaluate the condition of production equipment, troubleshoot issues and collaborate with maintenance when repairs are needed, using the maintenance work order system
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for all employees
- Manage employee training to include assigning trainers, verifying training documentation accuracy, and monitoring/correcting issues that hinder timely training completion
- Compile and analyzes production records to ensure timely and accurate completion
- Evaluate department processes and recommend and coordinate needed changes based on process analysis from KPIs Key Performance Indicators and problem solving results.
- Report any issues or concerns that arise during day-to-day activities to the Production or Plant Manager.
- Drive forklift, on occasion, to assist with movement of goods throughout the facility
- Other duties as assigned
Education Requirements
- High School or GED, (required, College Degree Preferred)
- Continuous Improvement Training or Certification preferred
Desired Experience
- 5 years experience in Lean manufacturing environment including at least 2 years as production supervisor
- Non-wovens experience preferred
