TITLE: Department Head STIPEND: $2,500/year
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal or his/her designee, the Department Head is responsible for assisting the Building Principal or Curriculum Director in providing general direction and assistance to fellow professional staff for the purpose of improving instruction and student outcomes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support teachers, principals, and the district in the implementation of MA Frameworks and Common Core State Standards and District priorities.
Work with the Building Principal and/or Curriculum Director to insure that all teaching materials are up to date, best practices are followed, and any supplemental materials are appropriate.
Disseminate pertinent data to department and cohort; utilize/analyze Edwin Analytics, MAP, MCAS, DIBELS, and common assessment data, as applicable, to improve instruction and student outcomes and build capacity of department members to do the same.
Serve as liaison between curriculum committees, administration, and departments to insure strong and timely communication to inform school improvement planning.
Lead the development and regular revision of curriculum maps.
Generate and catalog department meeting agendas and minutes, providing copies to the Curriculum Director and Building Principal in a timely fashion.
Coordinate department/cohort supplies, textbooks, and equipment needs. Attend all textbook consultant presentations for department materials scheduled by the Curriculum Director, during and after school hours.
Meet with Building Principal and/or Curriculum Director to develop department meeting agendas and facilitate one meeting per month. All Department Heads will be given a schedule of meetings for the year by September 15th.
Collect data and surveys requested by the Curriculum Director and submit within agreed upon times.
Manage department resources. This may include, but is not limited to:
•Verifying deliveries of student/teacher resources
•Labeling department resources as needed
•Maintaining and managing inventory of resources
•Organizing distribution of new resources
•Submitting department purchase requests in writing
Attend and contribute to quarterly District department meetings (2 hour maximum per meeting) to discuss vertical alignment of curriculum and the continuity of best practices with each department. All Department heads will be given a schedule of meetings for the year by September 15th.
Serve on interview committees to recommend the appointment of departmental new hires as requested.
Work with the Building Principal and Curriculum Director to establish a routine of using test (MCAS) released items at each building. Participate in the selection of released items and support the use of items in coordination with the Building Principal.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
Must hold a Master's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Must demonstrate previous experience in a leadership role. Must have a minimum of 5 years teaching in the Oxford Public School District. Must have attained three consecutive years of overall proficiency on his/her performance evaluations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this job, employee is required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods, move/traverse short and long distances, and operate computer equipment/software. Accommodations may be made for an individual with disabilities to perform the functions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy school environment. The noise level is usually moderate to loud but occasionally high depending upon student population and activities.
