TITLE: Custodial Workers - Temporary/Seasonal Summer Help
TIMEFRAME/HOURS: June 20th - August 25th -
WORK HOURS: Full-time and Part-time shifts - between 6:00am - 2:30pm
SUMMARY: Reporting to the Building Principal, the Temporary/Seasonal Custodian is responsible for providing custodial services at an assigned site(s) on a temporary basis, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff, and visitors by performing various special cleaning operations and assisting with the preparation of facilities for classroom activities and campus events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepares the sites for daily operation and ensures facility and grounds are clean, safe, and hazard free.
Cleans and maintains floors, fixtures, whiteboards, furniture, restrooms, and disposes of rubbish.
Cleans and sweeps sidewalks, picking up and disposing of trash on school grounds.
Washes windows and all glass areas.
Assists with arranging and moving furniture and equipment.
Responds to safety and operational concerns (facility damage, vandalism, alarms) and takes appropriate action by notifying appropriate personnel for resolution; examines school buildings and grounds on a regular basis to determine necessary repairs and maintenance.
Keeps current logs, record-keeping, and documentation of work performed; maintains custodial tools and equipment in good condition.
Attends meetings, training, and workshops required to perform job functions efficiently.
Contact with school and town personnel, students, organizations using school facilities, as well as contractors and vendors.
Disposes of all hazardous material in a safe manner; maintains Materials Safety Data Sheets.
Provides summer cleaning including stripping and waxing floors, washing and/or painting walls.
Performs similar or related work as required or as a situation dictates
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience
High school graduate with two to three years of related janitorial or custodial experience strongly preferred. Valid Driver’s License required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the use of safety devices and protective equipment; use of safe practices and methods in the operation of supplies and equipment; correcting any conditions within a building or grounds that may be hazardous and reporting hazards to supervisor; building systems and repairs; inventory control; and record-keeping techniques;
Skills-based competencies include managing and coordinating day-to-day custodial service operations at assigned school site(s); effective communication skills; and operation of custodian equipment and tools.
Ability-based competencies include planning and organizing all aspects of custodial duties; analyzing situations accurately and adopting an effective course of action; working independently with little direction; comprehending instructions on labels of equipment and cleaning supplies; preparing for and completing assignments in a proactive and timely manner; coordinating work to achieve maximum productivity and efficiency; willing and able to learn new routines, procedures, and develop new skills; and respectful in dealings with others.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of the job, employee may be required to remain in a stationary position for extended periods; position oneself to use a variety of equipment and tools; move heavy objects up to and over 50 pounds; and operate custodial tools and equipment. WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work is performed primarily in an indoor environment, with occasional exterior work and travel from site to site; exposure to dust, grease, odors, chemicals, and all weather conditions.
