Job Posting for PT Animal Care Attendant at P.A.W.S. Animal Adoption Center
An Animal Care Attendant will maintain a safe and sanitary facility for the animals and the public; provide proper handling and feeding of all animals; clean all animal areas in accordance with disease control procedures; communicate to the necessary persons the conditions of the animals within their care; relate with the public when necessary and appropriate in a professional manner; good skills in reading, writing, and communications.
Supervision Received:
The Animal Care Attendant works under the direction of the Shelter Director (or Director on Duty for the day).
Essential Duties:
Remove animals from their cages/kennels, clean and sanitize cages/kennels in accordance with disease control procedures
Provide food, water, and proper care for all animals according to assigned schedule or otherwise directed. Wash, sanitize, or dispose of food and water receptacles
Visually inspects and monitors all animals for signs of illness or unusual behavior
Reports any potential problems to Director of Animal Sheltering / Asst. Director
Transports or moves animals to assigned areas within the shelter
Assist in the handling and restraining of animals.
Perform clerical functions as may be required for the maintenance of records in the shelter
Washing, drying, folding and putting away laundry
Washing, drying and putting away dishes
Transport animals to and from the vets
Medicating of animals
Work within a team environment and participate in all activities and duties within the shelter.
May volunteer for work on fundraising and other activities.
Other duties as directed
Qualifications:
Experience / Education
High School Diploma or GED. Satisfactory work experience in the field of animal care, health aide, or custodial work. Education above high school in a relevant field may be substituted for work experience. Good interpersonal skills. Must know basic knowledge of animals. May know or be willing to learn breed identification skills.
Working Conditions:
Position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, squatting, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
This position requires grasping, pulling, and repetitive hand movement.
Additionally, the position requires near, far, and color vision in performing medical procedures and using the computer; hearing is required when providing phone and counter service and working with other staff.
While in training or performing medical procedures the incumbent is working with needles ant other sharp instruments.
The incumbent is frequently around animals that are agitated or injured and may attempt to bite or scratch.
The need to lift and carry animals or food weighing in excess of 50 pounds is required.
