P2 Science is a bio-renewable chemistry company that has developed a set of unique process technologies for converting renewable feedstocks into high-value specialty materials .
The Naugatuck plant produces these materials using proprietary processes. The markets for these products include Cosmetics and Flavors and Fragrance Ingredients.
Position Summary
The Naugatuck Plant Operator is responsible for hands-on production operations, plant maintenance and in-process quality control. The Plant Operator ensures the Naugatuck plant operates in safe manner, produces quality materials and meets all regulator and customer requirements.
Responsibilities / Job Functions
· Performs day to day operation of plant processes, warehousing, shipping and receiving, maintenance and in-process QC.
· Ensures all processes are carried out in a safe manner and all company safety, quality and regulatory policies, procedures and instructions are followed
· Assists in the development of safety, quality, operating, maintenance, and inventory procedures and instructions.
· Follows requirements of of plant preventative maintenance program, maintains spare parts inventory and performs maintenance recordkeeping.
· Ensures in-process testing equipment is maintained and operational and all testing is carried out in accordance with test method requirements.
· Follows all safety procedures and instructions in response to incidents and spills of hazardous materials.
· Ensures customer requirements are met at all times.
· Reviews material properties and performs material testing required for acceptance of raw materials. Authorized for acceptance of materials that meet all specification requirements. Contacts Supervisor or designee in the event raw materials do not meet required specifications.
· Participates in facility incident investigations as required.
Safety Responsibilities
· Wears/Uses required PPE at all times and ensures all employees wear/use required PPE.
· Follows all safety policies, instructions and rules ensures all employees follow all safety policies, instructions and rules.
· Performs plant housekeeping inspections as required.
· Performs safety equipment inspections as required.
· Follows all regulations for handling of hazardous waste
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Hands on experience as an operator and in the chemical manufacturing sector preferred
· Strong Technical Aptitude
· Ability to work flexible schedule and off shifts as required
· General knowledge of plant process and chemical unit operations preferred
· General knowledge of safety regulations, safe work practices and handling of hazardous materials preferred
· OSHA 10 Hour Certification and HAZWOPER Operations Level Training preferred
· Trustworthy high integrity individual who can work well in a team environment.
Physical Demands
· Position is considered “heavy work”, defined as exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25-50 of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
· Must be medically capable of wearing all required personal protective equipment including respirators which will require a clean-shaven face for suitable fit under the OSHA regulations.
· Capable of operating a forklift.
Education and Experience
· Minimum Education High School Graduate
· 5 years in the chemical industry as an operator preferred
