Position Summary:
Pacific Crest School (PCS) is seeking a dynamic, innovative Director of Operations starting Summer of 2022. The Director of Operations is the leader of the PCS business and facilities team and works closely with the Head of School to supervise the business and facilities aspects of the school to ensure the well-being and sustainability of the School and its community. The PCS administrative team is a roll-up-your-sleeves operation as we keep our administration lean to dedicate as many resources as possible to our educational programs. There is a wide range of responsibilities covered in this position and the ideal candidate will be willing and enthusiastic to assist where needed.

School Overview:
Pacific Crest School (PCS), founded in 1985, is an independent, non-profit Montessori school in Seattle serving over 200 students ages 2 ½ - 14, preschool through eighth grade. To meet the developmental needs of our adolescent program in particular, the school owns and operates a 19 acre farm on Vashon Island with the benefit of a farm manager and up to three interns or other farm employees. Our school community is based upon respectful and caring environments; commitment to the support of human development; belief in the potential of each and every child; and support on the path to independence.

Key Responsibilities:

Compliance, Policies, and Procedures

  • Oversee administrative compliance with state licensing, private school approval, grant management and federal funding requirements
  • Function as the Business, Facilities and Farm Program Supervisor
  • Maintain thorough knowledge and understanding of, and adherence to school policies and procedures
  • Keep school and personnel policies up-to-date in accordance with best practices and current employment law
  • Ensure school’s compliance with established, published safety policies, and seek opportunities to improve safety
  • Oversee the scheduling and execution of monthly re drills, and quarterly earthquake and lockdown drills

Operations & Finance

  • Provide leadership in day-to-day operational activities
  • Hire, onboard, and coach facilities and business staff to meet school needs
  • Supervise the business manager’s maintenance of personnel les, policies and procedures
  • Supervise the management of the school’s insurance policies and employee benefits
  • Oversee and manage school finances and nance staff: billing, payroll, budget preparation, audits, financial reports and historical records, grant opportunities and property & investment transactions and improvements
  • Ensure business procedures are well documented and comply with mandated turnaround times
  • Provide operational guidance and support to office, facilities and farm staff
  • Provide facilities and operational support and management to the PCS Farm and capital improvements made to properties on both campuses to meet short and long-term facility goals
  • Implement a variety of school initiatives and topics from the Strategic Plan, including managing capital improvement projects on the school’s urban and farm campuses
  • Oversee the budget process for extracurricular and summer programs

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor degree or higher in education or related eld
  • Ability to obtain and maintain all the requirements for Program Supervisor for DCYF-licensed child care centers, including background check clearance, ongoing training, and all necessary education verification and trainings
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and relationship skills
  • Organizational skills, including the ability to multitask
  • Computer skills: Google suite, word processing, light Excel/database management
  • Professional, personal demeanor with flexibility, enthusiasm, and integrity
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with administrators, faculty, staff, parents, and the Board
  • An educational philosophy consistent with the mission of the School
  • Commitment to the positive intellectual, moral, personal, and physical growth of young people
  • Able to work some evenings and weekends, as required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Significant operations, business or facilities experience, particularly in non-profit or independent school setting
  • Nonprofit experience
  • Teaching experience
  • Knowledge of or training in AMI Montessori educational philosophy, and/or progressive education or community development experience
  • Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and transforming society to foster peace and justice

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
