General Purpose
Groundman (Provisional Status) employees will be required to pass the NJATC with a 5 or better before applying/bidding to an apprenticeship when such a position opens. The Groundman must obtain an apprenticeship within 24 months of hiring or forfeit their employment.
The Pre-Apprentice Lineman employees will be required to bid locations in Utah, Idaho and/or Wyoming after successfully passing the final Journeyman Lineman Exam.

Responsibilities
Groundman are required to:
- Hand lineman necessary protective equipment needed for work being performed (i.e. (hotsticks, rubber goods, blankets, gloves, etc)
- Prepare and assemble various line apparatus required for particular work being performed.
- Drive and operate the various vehicles and/or equipment;
- Keep work areas clean and organized. Pickup scrap wire, boxes, and other discarded materials.
- Keep unauthorized people away from work area.
- Stocking trucks with material commonly used on a daily basis and maintaining vehicles (fueling, cleaning, organizing, etc.)
- Use various hand and power tools.
- Assist with loading of various materials onto trucks and/or trailers.
- Digging
- Assemble conduit and place in trench.
- Assist with installation of various underground apparatuses.
- Assist with pulling wire
- Must be knowledgeable with the materials needed and process to strip and terminate underground cables.
- May be required to assist lineman in second bucket while working on lines.
- Prepare pole mount transformers and assist with installation.
Requirements
- Must have a high school diploma, GED, or proof of equivalent
- Possess a current Driver's License, and be able to obtain a Class "A" Commercial Driver's License within the 6 month probationary period.
- Be available to work extended hours, prearranged overtime and after hours outages as required by the company.
- This position will require a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.
- Ability to communicate with others and to assimilate and understand information, in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
- Ability to make sound decisions in a manner consistent with the essential job functions.
- Ability to perform duties involving prolonged standing, sitting, crouching and/or stooping.
- Ability to push, pull, and position tools, equipment, and structural material weighing in excess of 100 pounds.
- Ability to lift loads weighing up to 100 pounds.
- Ability to work from ladders and at heights up to 100 feet
- Ability to work on smooth or uneven surfaces and under varying climatic conditions.
- Ability to work with both arms overhead.
- Ability to grip and hold lines and ropes with up to 75 pounds weight.
- Ability to operate assigned equipment and vehicles.
Physical Demands:
Since the Groundman is likely expected to progress, most likely to a Lines career, the job duties of Lineman require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force. Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body and overhead. Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.
