Job Description
The Associate Archaeologist will primarily provide support to our Fresno office, but will also work other offices throughout California and the West Coast. The candidate will need to be able to work independently or as a part of a team of professionals. The candidate will be required lead crews on archaeological survey, archaeological testing, and archaeological data recovery projects and must be able to walk several miles daily, over all types of terrain, and be able to excavate in a variety of conditions. In addition to fieldwork duties, the candidate will be required to prepare sections or entire reports and assist in general project management duties. Some travel is anticipated. Familiarity with the cultural history of California and knowledge of state and federal cultural resource regulations is a must. This is a full-time, salaried position.
Qualifications
- Graduate degree in archaeology, anthropology, or a closely related field is required.
- 1 year of professional archaeological experience in California is preferred
- Meet or exceed the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standard, Code of Federal Regulations 36 CFF Part 61 for Archaeology
- Strong organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and commitment to achieving team goals
- Technical writing skills and ability to provide writing examples, if requested
- Must demonstrate excellent attention to detail, a positive work ethic and attitude, reliability, and commitment to working both independently and in a team environment
- Valid driver’s license
