Pali Wine Co. is looking to add a Cellar Master to our fantastic team at the winery. This position is full-time and will report to the Associate Winemaker. This is a position that has the potential to grow into an Assistant Winemaker role.
Responsibilities:
- Under direction of the Associate Winemaker, lead a team of 1-2 throughout the non-harvest season
- Running a team of 2-3 to perform all tasks and responsibilities in the Cellar
- Upkeeping a clean and organized cellar while maintaining a constant workflow
- Perform SO2 analysis and additions
- During Harvest, the Cellar Master will lead a shift of 3 interns for harvest six days/ week
- Performing daily harvest responsibilities— fermentation actions, cleaning, analysis, forklifting, grapes, barrels, tanks, etc.
- Moving barrels and cased goods to and from multiple facilities, on occasion to Pali Outposts
- Collect samples and set up blending trials when necessary
- Keep an updated inventory of supplies and inform the winemakers when more is needed
- Operate a Crossflow Filter
- If necessary, come in on weekends (outside of harvest, this is rare)
- Adhering and enforcing safety protocols
- Keeping all equipment operating efficiently and notifying the Associate Winemaker if there are issues
- Weekly pH checks on wastewater
- Constructively training Cellar Hands and interns on the winery’s equipment and processes
Requirements:
- Minimum 3 years of winemaking experience
- Self-motivated individual that can blend efficient work and time-management with minimal supervision
- A team-oriented positive and winning attitude
- Ability to bend, stand and sit for prolonged lengths of time; ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Willingness to work on elevated surfaces and occasionally wet surfaces
- Laboratory skills not required, but always a plus
- Valid CA Drivers’ License
- Experience in forklifting required
- Related degree preferred, but not required
- Spanish speaking not required, but always a plus
Salary Range: $22 - $25/hour
