Job Summary
This position is part of a team that offers food service to community members experiencing food insecurity. The Driver is responsible for the pickup and delivery of food through direct interactions with the public and partner organizations. Truck drivers will operate a up to a 38 foot trailer, 28 foot refrigerated truck or similar vehicle to pick up and deliver food to customers or transport to the storage facility in an efficient and timely manner. The candidate will interact extensively with the public and other staff members and must have a passion and interest in Hunger Relief.
Responsibilities
- Follows all DOT and safety rules and regulations.
- Monitors physical and mechanical condition of vehicles.
- Load and unload truck with food that may be palletized or will have to be palletized
- Transport loads over required routes to proper destinations, observing all traffic laws and safety regulations
- Keep accurate inventory, weighs the condition of pick-ups and deliveries
- Ensure delivery with signed food bank documents including donation receipts, shipping notices, manifests, and invoices
- Report daily progress and consult with supervisor about challenges
- Communicate with management and recipients
- Grade product by recording and reporting viability of product
- Maintain records of mileage and condition of truck using the driver
- Report any mechanical problems to supervisor
- Assist in general warehouse duties upon completing delivery routes and as needed
- Follow guidelines for the safe handling of food
- Keep cab of truck clean
- Safely operate warehouse equipment
- Other duties as assigned
