Position: DIVISION DIRECTOR V - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, CRIMINAL JUSTICE COMMISSION, PALM BEACH COUNTY

Salary: $121,434 Annually, Negotiable Depending on Qualifications

Department: Criminal Justice Commission

Location: 301 N. Olive Avenue, West Palm Beach

Hours: 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M., Monday - Friday

Other: Valid Florida Driver's License prior to appointment and PBC Risk Management Department driving history approval prior to appointment.

THIS IS AN AT-WILL POSITION.

Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners (PBC BCC) is seeking a highly credentialed and principled leader who wants a challenging career, and an opportunity to serve as a catalyst to bring together criminal justice and related agencies in partnerships. This is a Senior Executive-level position responsible for leading the Palm Beach County (PBC) Criminal Justice Commission (CJC). This is highly responsible, professional and administrative work developing and coordinating the work of the CJC, which studies all aspects of the criminal justice system at federal, state, county, local and private agencies, including intersecting systems such as education, human services, and behavioral health. This work involves developing, coordinating and overseeing research, policy recommendations, and other substantive projects of the PBC CJC to improve justice outcomes in the County. The position duties include administration, supervision, planning, promoting and ensuring the work of the CJC is in compliance with thePalm Beach County CJC ordinance.

Responsibilities include: Directs a staff of 10 professional, support, and temporary staff performing specialized criminal justice functions; spokesperson for the CJC; initiates, organizes and directs research and fact-finding projects to review and evaluate existing systems, policies and programs within the criminal justice system; assists in the coordination of systems and programs within the scope of the CJC for approval by the Board of County Commissioners; coordinates and interacts with the task forces and subcommittees within the CJC who analyze and evaluate programs, policies and systems within the scope of the CJC; maintains interaction regularly with the CJC to advise on all matters relative to political, social and economic impact of crime; reviews and comments on grant requests for CJC programs and systems; makes recommendations regarding legislation and comprehensive plans dealing with CJC systems and programs; acts as liaison between the CJC and agencies under the auspices of the Board of County Commissioners; recommends the hiring, termination and promotion of staff and prepares performance evaluations; prepares/presents reports/findings clearly and concisely in written and oral form; effectively interacts with Federal, State and local officials and members of civic and business organizations.

Work is performed with considerable independence, judgment, discretion and initiative in unison with the CJC, agencies operating within our criminal justice system and other local, state and federal agencies. The position will report to the County Administrator. Goals and performance evaluations of the Executive Director shall be accomplished jointly by the PBC County Administrator and the CJC.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Public Administration, Law or related field; 10 years of progressively responsible professional and managerial experience in all phases of criminal justice systems including, but not limited to, defense, prosecution, judiciary, law enforcement and corrections; public or media relations experience; demonstrated ability to be the spokesperson for the Criminal Justice Commission (must specify on application). Directly related professional experience may substitute for education on a year for year basis. Valid Florida Driver's License and PBC Risk Management Department approval prior to appointment. Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in Criminology, Public Administration, Law or related field. Experience with: Criminal justice program evaluation for Palm Beach County; current criminal justice legislation/developments/literature/sources of information; criminal justice grant writing/applications.
