Cost Analyst

Palmer Candy is looking for a Cost Analyst.
Hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday.

Overall Purpose
This position utilizes accounting and financial methods to analyze the cost of receiving, manufacturing, and shipping each product and applying that data to determine suggestions for sales prices and to review product performance.
Essential Job Functions:

• Use data captured by the Operations Team to review the cost of manufacturing each product and analyze on a continuous basis
• Develop and perform account and cost variance analysis
• Collect and report financial analytics accurately
• Assist with the development and implementation of a pricing model to be used with our customers and review/analyze the results
• Assist with all accounting functions, including daily entries, monthly close, inventory reconciliation, preparation of work papers for third part examinations, etc.
• Serve as the contact person for cost related questions.
• Review profitability by product by customer and prepare analysis of actual compared to projected results
• Assist with the implantation and maintenance of various software systems to monitor operations and financial projects
• Assist with organizing software packages for operations
• Assist with the preparation of capital appropriation requests, new product development/growth initiatives and cost reduction projects
• Assist with providing and maintaining key financial metrics; and reviews operating metrics for the facility to ensure facility meeting goals and forecasts
• Partner with the Operations Team to help identify, track, and measure continuous improvement initiatives
• Accurately prepare various internal and external reports
• Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Required Skills/ Abilities

• Excellent data analytical and data mining skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Thorough understanding of cost accounting principles and procedures.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software as well as accounting software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Detailed knowledge of accounting and financial reporting.

Education and Experience*

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business-related field
• 3-5 years of progressive finance experience (preferably with a manufacturing company)
• Audit experience is a plus
