Position Summary

Provide comprehensive and appropriate dental care and treatment to patients. Provide supervision to Dental Assistant(s) and Dental Hygienist(s) as assigned.

Description Of Primary Responsibilities

  • Responsible for patient care
  • Provide necessary dental services to patients of Palms Medical Group within his/her scope of practice in accordance with stated policies, procedures and protocols of PMG.
  • Identify him/herself as a dentist and wear identification badge at all times.
  • Exhibit professionalism when greeting and treating patients in the dental clinic.
  • Provide routine and emergency dental services, including diagnosis and treatment plans, general restorative procedures, crown and bridge construction, removable prosthetics, uncomplicated endodontics and minor oral surgery.
  • Educate, counsel and guide patients on disease prevention and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Conduct follow-up patient care.
  • Administer and prescribe anesthetics and medication.
  • Refer patients for specialty care to other clinic programs or outside agencies as appropriate.
  • Initiate and interpret x-ray and lab studies.
  • Responsible for coverage
  • Be available after hours to treat or triage dental emergencies as determined necessary.
  • Responsible for administrative duties
  • Assist in dental data collection for UDS and grant applications.
  • Participate on QA/QI activities as directed by the Dental Director.
  • Assist in reviewing dental productivity, scheduling procedures and establishing guidelines for patient care and treatment.
  • Assists with in-service and on-going training of dental staff.
  • Maintain the established system of medical records (E.H.R.) in keeping with current PMG policies and procedures.
  • Advise the appropriate member of management as defined by the institutions organizational chart of any problems you perceive with PMG operations.
  • Participate in community service and dental/health promotion programs.
  • Participate in the review of all dental policies, procedures and protocols.
  • Assume, as requested, the supervision of dental assistants and dental hygienists in accordance with Florida Statutes Chapter 466.
  • Perform any other duty assigned by Dental Director, CMO or CEO to improve the efficiency of PMG.

Requirements:

  • Must be organized, a self-starter and detailed oriented.
  • Job duties require the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Shall demonstrate high degree of knowledge and competency in the practice of dentistry and associated charting requirements.
  • Expected to travel and cover other sites during dental absences.
  • Expected to coach, mentor and train dental staff.

Professional & Technical Knowledge:

  • Follow Safety and OSHA requirements,
  • Maintain appropriate certifications,
  • Undergo credentialing, utilization and peer reviews,
  • Employee will be expected to navigate and operate Microsoft Office suite products, including Word and Excel.

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited dental school with a D.D.S or D.M.D. degree
  • Current and Valid Dentist license in the State of Florida
  • Current BLS (basic life support) Certification

Communications Skills:

  • Effectively communicates complex and/or technical information to co-workers, patients and/or vendors

Physical/Mental/Emotional Demands:

  • Health / Safety Consideration of Position
  • Exposure to chemical infectious / contagious illness
  • Exposure to chemical and inhalation of antibiotics during reconstitution
  • Exposure to X-Ray radiation
  • Exposure to a variety of scents and odors
  • Must utilize universal precaution in clinical or exposure situations as prescribed by federal state, and local guidelines and /or laws
