What are the responsibilities and job description for the PLC Controls Designer position at Pan America Environmental Inc.?
DESCRIPTION:
You will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and the customer to design for fabrication system control panels, both relay logic and PLC based. We manufacture industrial wastewater treatment systems as well as custom control panels for related customer applications. Mechatronics Certification or four-years of experience designing panels and working with PLC software is required. System control integration into the customers plant network or SCADA packages is now required on most PLC projects. Experience with pumping (both chemical metering and process flow) systems and automated mechanical systems is a plus.
NOTE:
Project management skills will be an important aspect of the job which includes project budgeting, meeting customer and in-house production schedules, purchasing equipment, and customer communication. You should have excellent written and oral communication skills to interact with many levels of clients and partners.
SKILLS:
The skill set include programming Allen Bradley PLC's and HMIs wiht Studio 5000, CCW, and Factory Talk software. Experience with Unitronics, Siemens, and Automation Direct PLCs would be beneficial. This includes logic program development and troubleshooting, operator screen development, integrating analog sensing into controls, and AutoCAD support.
OTHER VALUED SKILLS:
- Develop specifications for PLC controls and data collection strategy.
- Read and modify electrical drawings.
- Have a strong background in PID process control utilizing instrumentation for flow, pressure, temperature, level, and measurement.
- Demonstrate technical leadership, adaptability, analytical and problem-solving skills, decision making, and trouble-shooting abilities.
- Clear standards of personal integrity, business ethics, and values.
- Work in plant manufacturing systems, with plant operators, maintenance, quality, and engineering.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT:
Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a major in math/physics/science with very strong computer experience. An Associate degree with added work experience would be acceptable.
