What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager position at Paper Transport?
Safety Manager
The position shares ownership with all of the associates to ensure a safe and compliant culture. The right candidate will need to have the ability to effectively engage our employees in our safety culture. Safety is our number one value and this position will instill that value in all of the training and safety programs that will be developed within this area.
- Develop and implement safety initiatives and interactive safety programs
- Partner with Operations to address safety concerns
- Enforce and support all company policies and procedures in regards to the company’s commitment to safety
- Conduct driver orientations and develop relationships with drivers in order to educate them on our culture and values
- Perform road tests with drivers and remedial evaluations
- Full understanding of our FMCSA regulations, safety policies, and safety equipment in the truck to include Drivecam, Elogs, Crash Avoidance, etc.
- Run daily safety reports to ensure our drivers are in compliance for hours of service, sudden stop events, etc.
- Develop content and present material at quarterly driver meetings
- Develop and report KPI’s (incident rate, etc.)
- Maintain on-going communication and positive working relationships with our vendors
- Coach and mentor employees
- Serve as a point of contact for internal audits, which may include interactions with outside vendors
- Responsible for FMCSA and CSA monitoring and reporting of changes

Education and experience requirements:
- Associate’s Degree
- Two or more years of transportation experience, to include experience in either Operations or Safety
