Summary
At PaperWorks, we are in pursuit of being recognized as a Great Place to Work®. To get there, we need an experienced and knowledgeable Plant Controller to join the team in our Baldwinsville, NY folding carton plant. In this role, you will ensure the accuracy and integrity of cost accounting and financial reporting as well as to provide management with information and analyses for use in making decisions critical to the success of the business. Responsibilities include month-end closing, cost accounting, financial reporting, variance analysis, cost savings analysis, internal controls compliance, balance sheet management (including fixed assets), budget analysis and development, capital expenditures, and forecasting.
Our Plant Controller will work with the management team to identify opportunities for continuous improvement, perform cost/benefit analyses, make trade-off decisions impacting product development and pricing, and execute process improvement actions.
Responsibilities
How you will impact PaperWorks:
- Prepare the month-end plant closing activities to ensure an accurate and timely close. Analyze monthly actual results and variance analyses to budget/forecasts.
- Lead the plant forecasting processes (weekly, monthly, annual) based on key operational assumptions to accurately predict future performance, including analyzing cost trends and patterns.
- Work with management to develop and propose plans to address deviations from targets.
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations.
- Prepare the annual plant/operating budget including all components of P&L and Working Capital by interfacing across many departments.
- Oversee the plant inventory accounting to ensure controls and procedures are in place (physicals count, cycle counts, and monthly reconciliations). Investigate significant physical inventory variances to determine causal factors and formulates and recommends specific courses of action to resolve problem areas.
- Follow cost accounting procedures to accurately report plant operating results that meet US GAAP and management reporting requirements.
- Analyze and interpret daily cost data to identify problem areas and provide explanations to management of significant variances.
- Maintain and continuously improve the systems which support the plant product costing.
- Support and assist internal department reporting requirements such as audit schedules, tax schedules and others.
- Prepare various financial/operational schedules, reports, and presentations. Support ad hoc analysis and projects in support of the plant operations.
- Foster teamwork, lead change and demonstrate integrity.
Qualifications
What you will need to succeed:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or a related field of study. Prior experience in a manufacturing facility is a plus.
- Strong ERP experience, preferably Epicor-AVP.
- Ability to work within a general ledger, accurately and timely reconcile balance sheet accounts, approve, and post journal entries is a must. Basic understanding of GAAP with the ability to support external audit function as necessary.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills including the ability to present and explain financial results in a credible, professional manner to wide variety of audiences.
- Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
- Exemplary communication (written and verbal), organizational, and interpersonal skills with keen attention to detail.
