Purpose Statement
The job of Facilities & Construction Maintenance Technician V is done for the purpose/s of coordinating assigned construction projects and related activities; providing information to others; and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.
This job reports to Supervisor of Maintenance.
Essential Functions
Acts as a liaison with the District Community Education Department for the purpose of coordinating the use of facilities/grounds by community groups.
Assists in the selection, training, and evaluation of personnel for the purpose of maintaining adequate staffing, enhancing productivity of personnel and achieving objectives within budget.
Evaluates equipment (e.g. district copiers, telephone systems, security, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring district objectives are achieved within budget and timeframes and in compliance with established requirements.
Maintains a variety of manual and electronic files and/or records (e.g. work orders, assign repair request, budgetary recommendations, preventive maintenance programs, etc.) for the purpose of providing up-to- date reference and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.
Makes budget recommendations for all preventive maintenance work to be done at all schools for the purpose of ensuring efficiency of procedures and complying with mandated requirements.
Performs as a lead person involving the direct supervision of maintenance employees for the purpose of monitoring performance and/or organizing work assignments to achieve overall objectives of the department within established timelines.
Prepares written materials (e.g. budgets, costs, writing specifications, calendars, schedules, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference, and/or conveying information as needed.
Responds to inquiries (e.g. administrative staff, contractors, architects, the public, etc.) for the purpose of providing required information and/or referring to appropriate source.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; communicating with diverse groups; operating equipment used in building construction including blueprints, specifications etc.; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and planning and managing projects.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read technical information, compose a variety of documents, and/or facilitate group discussions; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: one or more construction trades preferred trades Locksmith, Business Machines, Energy Management, HVAC, Electrical, and Special Systems, codes, blue prints, etc.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities, meetings, and/or events; often gather, collate, and/or classify data; and use job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is limited to moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work environment and/or priorities; adhering to safety practices; being attentive to details; meeting deadlines and schedules; working with frequent interruptions; working under time constraints; and maintaining a good rapport with employees, community, contractors, architects and various government agencies.

Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; leading, guiding, and/or coordinating others; utilization of some resources from other work units is often required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to have some impact on the organization’s services.
Work Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 30% sitting, 40% walking, and 30% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
Experience: Job related experience is required.
