We are currently looking to fill the position of Sr. Manufacturing Engineer with a starting range of $78,000 - $125,000/year, dependent upon experience, education, and skills. This role is eligible for remote work within the US.
The Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for leading design for manufacturing (DFM) initiatives, optimizing cost processes, and identifying and managing strategic projects. This concurrent engineering role requires a high level of technical expertise, leadership, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure efficient and cost-effective manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities

- Design for Manufacturing (DFM):
- Lead DFM initiatives to ensure product designs are optimized for manufacturability.
- Collaborate with product design teams to influence design decisions that enhance manufacturability, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
- Develop and implement DFM guidelines and best practices.
- Cost Optimization:
- Analyze and identify opportunities for cost reduction in manufacturing processes.
- Implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising product quality and performance.
- Work closely with product development, procurement, and supply chain teams to evaluate and select cost-effective materials and suppliers.
- Project Identification and Management:
- Identify strategic projects that will improve manufacturing efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
- Lead cross-functional project teams to plan, execute, and complete projects within scope, on time, and within budget.
- Monitor project progress, report on milestones, and ensure adherence to project timelines.
- Technical Leadership:
- Provide technical guidance and support to junior engineers and manufacturing staff.
- Stay current with advancements in manufacturing technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into the manufacturing process.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and quality control measures.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with design, production, quality, and procurement teams to ensure seamless integration of manufacturing processes.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels to keep them informed of project status and any issues that may arise.
- Prepare and present technical reports, proposals, and recommendations to senior management.
- Interface with 3rd party suppliers, contractors, testing houses, etc.
- Assist the P28 Quality and Supply Chain departments to evaluate new suppliers for inclusion in the P28 approved supplier list
- Assist P28 Quality team in developing inspection plans
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action development for design related issues in released product
- Assist with other development projects as additional resource when needed, while balancing own workload
- Other duties as directed by manager
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones and copy machines. Occasional use of the development and quality labs necessary, adhering to all lab safety requirements. This position will work with cadaveric specimens.
Travel
Up to 10% of overnight travel.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in manufacturing engineering or a related field.
- Proven experience in leading DFM initiatives and cost optimization projects.
- Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully managing and completing projects.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and quality control standards.
- Proficiency in CAD/CAM software and other engineering tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to lead and mentor junior engineers and manufacturing staff.
- Understanding of medical device industry regulatory requirements required.
- High proficiency in MS Office
- Effective communication and presentation skills with ability to convey information and respond to questions from groups of peers
- Ability to work in a team environment.
