Job Summary: 

Looking for Quality Inspector, 2nd Shift and 3rd Shift (3pm - 11pm, 11pm - 7am) plus 10% Shift Differential on 2nd shift and 15% Shift Differential on 3rd shift but must train on 1st Shift for two weeks), who will perform dimensional and functional inspection of in process, incoming, and finished products to customer specification under the direction of the Supervisor/Team Lead using precision measuring equipment, hand tools, and various types of gauging.  Also, performs inspection and calibration of various types of gauging and precision measuring equipment.  May also include operation and qualification of CMMs, perthometers, profilometers, gear inspection equipment, and roundness testing equipment. Proficient in the use and set up of all measuring equipment in the Q.C. Inspection function.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Observe all safety rules and regulations including wearing and maintaining personal protective equipment.  Eye protection and hearing protection must be worn in the production area and appropriate protective equipment worn during necessary processes.
  • Assist in measuring team performance for safety, quality, delivery, and cost.  Work with team members, other business functions, customers, and suppliers to continually improve these measures
  • Performs duties to instruct, direct, assist and participate in activities of a group engaged in in-process and final inspection and data collection of a variety of products, from raw material to finished goods including purchased material.
  • Perform duties to inspect, repair, calibrate and generate documentation of master, inspection, production, metrology and other measuring instruments; provide accuracy of gauging in aspect of product process and inspection, metrology and analysis; maintain, issue and document inspection and production measuring devices and instruction sources.
  • Examine master, inspection, production and other measuring instruments for wear, and record need for reconditioning, repair or replacement, disassemble, repair, clean calibrate or requisition for major repair; insure maintenance of specification using surface plates, master gages and other special measuring devices as required; notify supervision regarding excessive damage and/or misuse.
  • Work from written instructions, prints, specifications, formulas, statistical data, and verbal instructions.
  • Ensure measuring instruments and equipment is in proper operating order.
  • Conduct reproducibility and reliability studies on gages, as directed.
  • Work with department associates as a team to assure that customer requirements are met and services are provided in a timely manner.
  • Maintain instructions and records for receiving and final audit in accordance with internal and customer specifications.
  • Inspect a variety of machined, received, and finished parts.   Check required quantities, dimensions and/or characteristics, locations, and finishes; check gauging, prints and charts for accuracy. Complete nonconformity information and discrepancy reports on defects found at required inspection stages.
  • Accurately complete required reports and records to adhere to customer requirements.
  • Participate in department and cross functional Level 3 improvement efforts.
  • Adhere to schedule changes to meet customer needs.
  • Participate in the layered process audit program (LPA) and assure that assigned audits are completed on-time.  Participate in quality system and manufacturing process audits as an audit team member.
  • Exercise proper care in the use of tools, equipment and materials.  Detect and report faulty equipment, defective materials, improper operations and/or unusual conditions to supervisor.
  • Assist in the training of other associates in procedures and use of equipment.
  • Maintain work area in a clean and safe condition.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or directed.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and write in English. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

 MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide.

 REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply basic reasoning skills. Ability to understand carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.  Basic knowledge of Level 3 principles.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 - 5 years as an operator/inspector, inspecting and measuring precision machined components for compliance to design and customer specification

 CERTIFICATION/TRAINING REQUIRED

  • Certified Quality Technician preferred

SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to use various types of gauges (micrometers, pin, ring, thread, snap, etc.)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings features.
  • Must be detail oriented and customer focused.
  • Able to follow directions, work instructions, and procedures.
