Position Summary:
The Laboratory Manager is responsible for the performance and administrative activities related to lab services in all Horizon Health locations. The responsibilities include the technical and scientific oversight of lab services, maintaining appropriate standards, and compliance with all policies/procedures.
Essential Functions:
- Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's laboratory operations and performance.
- Ensures and maintains compliance with all applicable quality and accreditation standards within the assigned areas or region.
- Assures that Lab meets its mission to provide accurate Lab test results in a time period which adheres to national benchmarks.
- Maintains appropriate inter-organizational relationships, acts as liaison for the Lab and other Clinic and Hospital departments.
- Reviews and approves personnel actions for hires, promotions, transfers, discharges, performance evaluations, and disciplinary measures.
- Plans, manages, and monitors the annual Laboratory operating, statistical and capital budgets.
- Reads, interprets and implements all regulations and laws that apply to the Lab.
- Reviews and monitors Quality Control and Quality Assurance functions.
- Understanding of the financial and operational systems of the laboratory.
- Aptitude for development of operational and cost management reports
- Develops methods for testing and provides appropriate input for selection of equipment.
- Works with medical staff and Laboratory Medical Director.
The responsibilities listed above are not all-inclusive; other activities may be required in support of the hospital’s goals and objectives. Responsibilities include cross-training for coverage of positions and other functions in the Clinic.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in medical technology, chemical, physical or biological science.
- 5-7 years of training/experience in high complexity testing in the respective specialty.
- Requires appropriate certification by ASCP, AMT, NCA or equivalent certification.
- Requires familiarity with automated and non-automated testing equipment.
- Requires knowledge of state and federal regulations.
- Requires ability to plan and manage the utilization of resources.
- May require travel.
