The billing supervisor will possess strong leadership skills and ownership over the responsibilities of the billing department as well as the prior authorization department. This person will have the ability to work autonomously, while maintaining the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of the duties assigned to this role.
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of 3 years supervisory experience in medical billing. The ideal candidate must be hands-on, not just leading a team, but also directly managing, all processes related to coding, billing and prior authorizations, reconciling accounts and be accountable for the overall health of the AR.
To be successful in this role, you should be detail-oriented and able handle the often-complex requirements of insurance carriers. Strong interpersonal skills are essential as you will be working with other team members, medical staff, or directly with patients. Exceptional time management and organizational skills are also imperative, as is staying current with dermatology coding and changing insurance procedures.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Trains and oversees employees involved in billing and prior authorization functions.
- Directs assigned tasks and aids as needed.
- Assists with performance evaluations.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Coordinate day to day activities with the teams
- Monitoring AR and team performance
- Monitoring Prior Authorizations and team performance
- Address and resolve account escalations
- Provide training and support to new employees
- Refresher training for established employees
- Keep the standard operating procedures and policies up to date
- Maintain system files under the direction of the billing office manager
- Assist with reporting
- Review and Distribute daily correspondence
- Review and Approve refund requests
- Assist in Month and Year End closing processes
- Balancing Practice Management System
- Assist with developing processes to improve productivity and quality of the team
- In addition to administrative responsibilities, the team lead may be asked to cover for employees when they are out and perform other billing and prior authorization functions as needed
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills.
- Ability to act with discretion, tact, and professionalism in all situations.
- Minimum of 3 years prior supervisory experience in medical billing is required.
- Extreme attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask and remain focused while managing a high-volume, time-sensitive workload
- Basic understanding of human anatomy, specifically skin, hair and nails
- Proficient knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes
