Principal Function:

The position will serve as a team member of the PCBC Day School. This position is responsible for maintaining all program standards including those of Park Cities Baptist Church, Texas Department of Health, and Human Services.  The Music & Chapel teacher will work under general supervision of the Day School Director with some demand for independent judgment and action.


Job Description

 ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare weekly musical activities and songs including movements for children ages 2-Pre-K/TK.
  • Prepare weekly Bible lessons to share with children ages 2-Pre-K/TK.
  • Ensure the music classroom has the supplies and resources ready at the start of each day.
  • Operate the music room sound board and lighting system.
  • Lead and plan two school wide programs each year which includes 2s – Pre-K/TK children.
  • Demonstrate a positive Christian attitude, enthusiasm and show pleasure in working with and caring for young children.Help parents by regularly providing academic information; suggesting available educational and social resources; promptly addressing parents’ concerns; answering questions and requests.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and show pleasure in working with and caring for young children.
  • Work with the PCBC Day School Director in developing curriculum.
  • Obtain a CPR certification and first aid training every two years.
  • Must complete 24 hours of required yearly training outlined by the Texas Health & Human Services Department 
  • Maintain Texas Minimum Standards
  • Abide by Positive Guidance and Discipline Methods according to Texas Minimum Standards
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director. 


OTHER REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Influenza vaccine is highly recommended at the onset of flu season and the COVID-19 vaccine is highly recommended, but not required at this time. 
  • Must have organizational skills to keep an orderly and clean learning environment.
  • Standing and walking for sustained periods of time; moving about on foot for lecturing and monitoring students in the classroom, as well as throughout the building and playground.
  • Stooping, crouching, crawling, and kneeling---ability to assist young children with needs.
  • Climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, and lifting --- ability to pick up small children as needed as well as for classroom setup purposes; occasional lifting between 20-40 pounds. 
  • The work environment is primarily indoors, in a classroom, and will also include an outdoor classroom environment with intermittent hot and cold weather.
  • Working with young children requires the ability to work with a wide variety of challenging behaviors and learning styles, diverse families, and co-workers.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Music, Early Childhood Education or Early Elementary Education 
  • A minimum of 1-3 years of experience in a preschool, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten, or an early elementary classroom setting.
  • Sound written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage in a professional, hospitable, and courteous manner.
  • Proficient understanding and ability to use computer technology for the purpose of online virtual learning, lesson planning, writing, and completing training courses. 
  • Strong work ethic with team attitude.
