The Engineer, Materials II provides extended expertise in participating and making recommendations on materials with specific characteristics appropriate for use in a particular application. Develops, processes and tests materials to be used in a variety of products. Carries out analysis, interpretation, judgement and deductions from facts, available information and appropriate. Materials' data sources. Participates in the material selection process. Responsible for research, specification, design and development of materials to advance technologies. Develops material and process improvements for existing products, with minimal oversight. Has a sound theoretical knowledge and some practical experience of applying engineering principles. Authors technical reports and process specifications. Maintains appropriate records of work. Works to ensure that products comply with national and international legal quality standards.
Advanced understanding of the properties and behaviors of raw materials. Knowledge of composite material processes, manufacturing processes and obsolescence, along with good understanding of regulations such as REACH etc. . Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to drive tasks to completion. Excellent ability to apply a systematic and analytical approach to problem-solving. Experience in working with a development team in creating a material for a particular need. Excellent understanding of the relationships between properties, structure, processing and performance. Ability to explain a range of complex technical information.
Education Level: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent experience.
