What you will do:
As a Park Ranger 2, you will plan and carry out interpretive park programs, conduct teams and volunteers to accomplish prescribed work, independently plan and complete complex park maintenance, analyze disruptions in park operations and prescribe appropriate solutions. You will also be responsible for a variety of visitor services, including conducting the operation of the campground and registration booth, training and overseeing the work of seasonal employees, ensuring that policies and procedures are followed, and completing work related to park patrol.
In this role, you will:
  • Plan work and conduct others in completing park operations.
  • Conduct the operation of the campground and registration booth.
  • Train and oversee the work of seasonal employees.
  • Ensure that OPRD policies and procedures are followed.
  • Consult with cultural, historic, natural or scenic resource specialists to determine appropriate actions for the park.
  • Coordinate volunteer activities within the management unit.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Four years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in Park and Recreation Administration, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Studies AND 1 year of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
OR
  • An Associate's degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies AND 2.5 years of visitor services experience (e.g., rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).
Special Requirements:
  • To be hired, you must have a criminal records and driving records check that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire, and throughout employment.
  • You must have a valid driver’s license at the time of hire and throughout employment.
  • Obtain and maintain the following after appointment:
    • OPRD Chainsaw (level I and II)
    • Professional Officer Safety Training Certification
    • First Aid/CPR Certification
    • Oregon Pesticide Applicators License
    • Oregon Wastewater Treatment & Collection Certificate

  • Skill in coordination with local emergency services providers, and preparation of emergency response plans.
  • Skill related to park visitor services; such as operating a campground and registration booth, training and overseeing the work of seasonal employees, ensuring that policies and procedures related to camp operations and cash handling are followed.
  • Skill in the use of a computer, or self-registration systems, preparing related reports, and processing campsite reservations.
  • Skill in giving direction concerning work procedures to individuals or teams composed of volunteers and correctional facility inmates in accomplishing different and varied tasks to achieve goals.
