Job Purpose
The Counter Salesperson is the first person that a customer sees when they walk into any of the retail locations. This means that the Counter Salesperson is in many cases the face of the company for customers and should demonstrate our FACE values. This position's main duty is providing sales assistance to walk-in and telephone customers. As time allows, they receive and stock inventory and perform general clean up and merchandising of the store.
Directly reports to Yard Manager. Interacts daily with Yard Manager, Assistant Yard Manager, Yard Supervisor (or Operation Lead), Inventory Specialist, Contractor Salespeople, delivery people and internal & external customers out of our Portland, Oregon lumberyard on NW 19th.
Pay Rate: $16.92 - 22.91
Duties and Responsibilities
Tasks:
- Invoice customers for building materials
- Answer customer's questions, process estimates and orders for customer
- Order stock, special order products for customers, and process credit returns
- Keep store clean and well merchandised during course of work
- Follows all AR account and cash handling procedures
- Ensures that appropriate paper work is completed as per company policy
- Check all paperwork for accuracy
- Completes basic quotes for customers
- Utilizes the interyard transfer system
- Follows proper material return procedures
- Processes ROA payments
- Processes tax adjustments when necessary
- Processes Synchrony Bank financing options
- Coordinate tool repairs services
- Maintain counter displays of merchandise and literature
- Greets customers with a smile and communicates with customers in a friendly manner
- Develop and maintain a professional and effective relationship with customers
- Performs empty peg counts and researches variances
- Regularly brings areas of concern to management's attention
- Professionally manages upset or disgruntled customers
- Regularly contributes ideas to make things better

Teamwork:
- Assist Inventory Specialist in maintaining an appropriate level of inventory
- As time allows, assist outside crew by loading customer vehicles and preparing loads for delivery

- Confirms delivery time with customer after scheduled in DDMS
- Responds to voicemails in a timely manner
- Responds to emails promptly with correct grammar and spelling
- Puts clear delivery and contact information on orders
Job Knowledge:
- Complete Blue-Volt training as necessary in a timely manner
- Completes basic Falcon order entry; PO's, backorders, and change orders
- Knows product locations in store
- Always puts stock away
- Regularly attend PK meetings
- Can perform basic quotes
- Understands how to use resources (Simpson book, Parr Pocket Guide book etc)
- Completed AMT training
- Follows all AR account and cash handling procedures
- Understands weight, height, and length limits, to inform customer of being able to safely handle or transport material
- Knows site condition requirements for our delivery fleet
- Process ROA payments with required information
- Able to process Synchrony Bank financing options
- Understands pricing levels and limits discounting
- Able to seek out product transactions and order history
- Uses all functions of Mitel
- Ability to use interyard transfer system; Logistics, courier etc
- Follows proper material return procedures
- Manages Outlook and personal notebook
- Proactively uses resources to seek information
- Can search inventory and open orders in all yards to meet customer's preferred option
- Ability to issue gift cards and verify balances
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of building materials and construction codes. Share product information with customers and co-workers

Qualifications
Qualifications include:
- High school diploma or GED
- Must be able to operate personal computer, smartphone, scanner, and any other equipment necessary for the job
- Must be able to type 30 WPM
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
- Class C driver's license or reliable alternative transportation required
- Acceptable driving record preferred
- Knowledge of retail sales principles, practices and protocols
- Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
- Ability to ten-key by touch
- Ability to read and interpret blue prints
- Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
- OSHA Certified Forklift License helpful

Working Conditions
The primary working conditions are at the sales counter of one of Parr's retail locations. The days are rotating Mon-Sat and the working hours are between 6AM and 6PM.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work indoors in a normal office environment for an entire day
- Must be able to grasp, talk, hear, and operate a computer and keyboard
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 50 pounds and carry objects 50 feet
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Must be able to drive a vehicle when necessary
- Both local and overnight travel may be required
