Job title: Lead Lumber Yard Associate
Pay: Starting at $19 - $24 an hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday 7am to 5pm
Location: Vancouver, Washington
The Lumber Yard Associate Lead position's main responsibility is the performance of the Lumberyard Associate team. The person in this position coaches, helps, reviews and works to create an environment that is motivating for the team.This position is essential in larger yards to help ensure the caliber of customer service and quality of work by the team meets PARR's standards. To help solve problems, coach new hires and develop a team attitude all play a large role in fulfilling PARR's mission of Legendary Service Through Teamwork.
This position reports directly to the Operations Lead. Interacts daily with Lumberyard Associates, Load Builders, Receiving Coordinators, Regional Yard Supervisor, Truck Drivers as well as the Assistant Manager and/or Lead Counter person.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- OSHA Certified Forklift License preferred
- Knowledge of receiving/inventory control principles, practices and protocols
- Knowledge of dimension lumber and panel products and other building materials
- Ability to read and interpret "picking tickets" and invoices
- Ability to concentrate and attend to detail amidst a busy work environment
- General knowledge and use of power tools
- Acceptable driving record preferred
Duties and Responsibilities
- Promote Legendary Service Through Teamwork by providing best example of exceptional service
- Is a member of the yard leadership team, and as such works in all ways for the good of the yard, the people and the profitability of the location
- Reviews daily/weekly tasks lists with YA team accordingly
- Help the Ops lead to identify and maintain "areas of pride" for each Lumberyard Associate (and self)
- Help Ops Lead write and deliver reviews
- When mistakes are made, follow through with team to make system corrections as needed
- Is responsible for training team on product knowledge
- Is responsible for training team on Safely loading customers vehicles.
- Works closely with the receiving team ensuring stock is put away in a timely fashion
- Oversee the process of returns being made in the yard
- Help stock inventory
- Is a member of the Safety Committee
- Assist Ops lead in scheduling lumber yard associates
- Help identify and process cull and damaged material
- Ensure that appropriate paper work is complete & scanned as per company policy
- Maintain yard cleanliness during course of work
- Perform daily safety audit of forklift and promptly reports any malfunctioning equipment
- Identify areas of opportunity for best practices pertaining to handling of products, along with packaging for adverse weather conditions
- Yard forklift trainer
This position works outside in a retail lumberyard location in all weather conditions.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to lift up to 90 lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
