At PartnerCare, we believe our team members are at the heart of our organization. The Medical Assistant directly assists our practice physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in providing patient care, with the focus being on performing clerical tasks. They are required to assist healthcare professionals in administrative and clinical tasks working closely with patients. Our MA'S are compassionate, but at the same time have the ability to keep a professional distance. Patients may be experiencing a whole range of emotions such as anxiety, anger, or helplessness and our MA’s are sympathetic and understanding of their needs.
Had you been with us last month, these are the things you would do:
- Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing examination gowns and drapes; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; drawing blood; preparing patients for x-rays.
- Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions, answering questions.
- Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
- Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipts.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
- Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies, and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards.
and after having done all these things and more, you would have the following…
- High school Diploma/GED required; Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Healthcare preferred.
- Two (2) years of experience as a Medical Assistant in a medical office; ASC preferred
- Knowledge of HIPPA and client confidentiality laws
- Good communication and customer service skills and knowledge of medical terminology; ability to use business office equipment and to remain calm during an emergency
- Ability to maintain confidentiality in filing patients’ data and knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT coding
- Knowledge of relevant OSHA, JCAHO, and CLIA requirements and guidelines
- Ability to use clinical equipment such as scales, thermometer, butterfly needles, stethoscope and sphygmomanometer; vision and hearing screening instrument, typanometer, pulse oximetry, and basic laboratory equipment such as a microscope, hematology analyzer, and centrifuge
