This is a full-time position with a business hour schedule Monday through Friday and a rotating schedule for on-call coverage.

What you will do... The Home Medical Equipment (HME) Intake Specialist performs a wide variety of clerical processes for the HME program with respect to referrals, admissions, medical orders, insurance verification, and medical records. Medical intake and/or billing experience is required for this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Processes clinical data including but not limited to computer entry of referral data and orders for HME services. Prepares and maintains both physical and electronic client records.
- Responds to telephone, fax, and email inquiries and orders from referral sources and homecare patients.
- Obtains all required medical records regarding HME clients.
- Verifies clients’ insurance coverage for HME services.
- Verifies providers’ status on the Medicare Provider Enrollment, Chain, and Ownership System (PECOS).
- Initiates delivery tickets, ABNs and AMAs (if necessary), Financial agreements, Plans of Care and intake packets. Works closely with Patient Service Techs (PSTs) to organize and redirect (if necessary) delivery routes respective of urgent orders.
- Audits records to ensure accuracy and completion.
- Responds to inquiries regarding general program information. Serves as a resource to recommend services to agency staff.
- Prepares reports and audits as requested by the supervisor.
- Makes initial contact with patient to inform them of the receipt of their referral and to initiate delivery coordination.
- Follows department infection control policies concerning safety and universal precautions.
- Maintain the Patient Service Technician delivery schedule based on urgency, driving schedule and patient priority.
- Maintain the filing and destruction of relevant DME patient charting.
Your Qualifications include... Qualifications include high school diploma or equivalent, one year of experience in a medical setting, proficiency with computers, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently. Medical intake and/or billing experience is required for this position. Organization and attention to detail are critical to being successful in this position.
