Partnership with Children works with public schools in New York City’s highest-need communities to provide critical social and emotional services for the hardest-to-reach youth and to systematically support schools that are safe, successful and conducive to learning. Afterschool Activity Specialist The Afterschool Activity Specialists work directly with program participants (students) in an after-school setting in which they lead small groups. The activity specialist would facilitate student participation in weekly discussions and activities around subjects such as: lifetime decision making, identifying values, communication and critical thinking, social etiquette, conflict resolution, and community service etc.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Prepare and develop age and skill-appropriate curriculum, lesson plans, activities, and special projects that fuse the arts and academic competencies to be reviewed by supervisors before being taught
Facilitate a project-based lessons
Engage youth in the following areas through the arts: critical thinking; evaluation; risk-taking; rehearsals; hands-on project-based learning; documentation of work; community-building and activism
Attend staff meetings
Share a knowledge of the history and current state social issues and culturally relevant matters, being able to interpret that into diverse learning opportunities
Ability to communicate the progress of students and share insights discovered to team members on a regular basis
Act as a role model for all program participants
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge Requirements
Expertise in dance, fashion and/or cooking or any other and ambition to teach these skills (college students currently pursuing degree-level work are also encouraged to apply)

Demonstrates understanding of high-need communities and public schools as well as social service, education and behavioral health issues that impact students and their families

Ability to work a flexible schedule: available days and evenings
Passion and experience with arts education, dance and/or cooking particularly involving high school students.

Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively on projects with staff and students
Note:
Each program takes place 1-2x/week afterschool for 2 hours, which on most days is 2:50-4:50pm, but also may vary (Thursdays, for example would be 12:15-2:15pm)
