What are the responsibilities and job description for the Ombudsman position at Pascua Yaqui Tribe?
The Ombudsman provides individual, family and community services that promote the well-being of Pascua Yaqui elders and families.
Skills and Abilities:
- Perform a variety of duties as an advocate to tribal members age 55 and over.
- Provide consolation, referral, intervention, mediation, and representation to the elderly and their caregivers who require assistance in dealing with governmental and private agencies.
- Provide benefits and eligibility counseling to the elderly.
- Represent the tribe through participation in community activities.
- Maintain relationship with community services, nursing homes, state agencies, and federal agencies that have an impact the elderly.
- Maintain records and demographics on services provided.
- Coordinate with and provides direct services and support for the Long Term Care Certified Advocates Program.
- Assist the Liogue Senior Center Program Manager by participating in management team decision- making process.
- Perform other duties of a similar nature or level as requested by supervisor or director.
- Theories, principles, and practices of an Ombudsman;
- Social, economic, and other needs of the elderly;
- Interviewing, assessment, and communication in individual and family settings;
- Community resources available to seniors;
- Acceptable standards of care in services provided;
- Problems, needs and behavioral patterns of disadvantaged, elderly, and disabled individuals;
- First aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR);
- Yaqui culture, customs, resources and traditions and/or a willingness to learn.

- Communicate effectively with the disadvantaged elderly, and disabled person;
- Interviewing and collecting pertinent information;
- Make independent judgments;
- Use tact, courtesy and communicate well with others, orally and in writing;
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other agencies and the public;
- Counsel and interact effectively with individuals, families, and tribal community groups;
- Communicate effectively both orally and written;
- Handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines;
- Maintain confidentiality of information;
- Operate a variety of office equipment, including a computer and related software applications;
- Good communication and interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with co-workers, supervisor, management, Council members, and the public. Have ability to sufficiently exchange or convey information and receive verbal and written work instructions.

- Age 55 and over preferred.
- TB Screening;
- Ombudsman Certification needed or obtained within 6 months;
- Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License;
- This position will require the incumbent to work non-traditional hours, nights, and weekends;
- Must have a current Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card or be able to obtain the Level 1 Arizona Clearance Card within ninety (90) days of hire. Failure to maintain a current Level 1 Clearance Card will result in termination.
Salary : $37,294
