Job Description

Patchouli Joe's Books & Indulgences is looking for book lovers to share their love and knowledge of books and gifts to become a Bookslinger and join our merry band of Patchouligans!

You'll relate well with others to build rapport and collaborative relationships with customers and staff. The team member will greet and effectively listen to customers to ensure prompt and courteous service.

Essential Functions

• Help foster an environment of acceptance, inclusiveness, and love.
• Greet all customers entering the store and provide exceptional customer service with each engagement.
• Answer questions and assist customers with special inquiries and selections regarding books and retail items.
• Provide book and gift recommendations, on request.
• Operate cash registers.
• Verbally receive and call back customer orders in a friendly manner.

• Accurately ring sales orders into point of sale system (POS) and count back change to customers.
• Coordinate merchandising inventory to reflect promotions and bookstore events and maintain attractive displays of books and retail items.
• Receive, store, and shelve new merchandise and supplies, and perform inventory.
• Re-shelve books and stock retail inventory.
• Complete ongoing cleaning of all surfaces, machinery, and customer areas.
• Assist customers with questions about books and gifts, as well as local sites of interest and tourist destinations.

• Host and assist with author signings and other special events.
• Balance cash drawer following each shift.
• Answer telephone in a courteous, friendly, professional, and welcoming manner.
• Follow all opening and closing procedures and maintain a safe workplace.
• Report potential safety hazards and all customer and employee accidents to the supervisor.
• Respond proactively to prevent customer service situations and report all complaints to store owner.
• Perform other duties as requested.

• Able to stand, walk, and lift items (up to 30 lbs.) on a regular basis.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time weekend position, with the possibility of additional weekday hours. Work hours will be according to business needs and some flexibility in schedule is required.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The key physical requirements of this position include the ability to walk and stand for an extended period of time, bending, stooping, and be able to lift up to 30 pounds. We will, of course, make all reasonable accommodations for other abled candidates.
