Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities and Position Qualifications: POSITION SUMMARY To direct the operations and administration of a pathology laboratory, comprised of several technical and specialized departments, in accordance with state and federal standards and administrative policies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES Manages day-to-day laboratory operations of the practice and establishes guidelines to prioritize work production evaluate effectiveness and improve the quality of services provided. Coordinates activities of personnel engaged in collecting, testing and analyzing specimens in order to provide diagnostics information to pathologist. Responsible for recruitment, hiring, training, orientation, discipline and evaluation of technical associates. Delegate’s authority, prioritizes work activities, resolves problems, prepares schedules, and sets deadlines to ensure timely completion of work. Provides guidance, resources, and support to Physicians, management and associates in the practice. Controls staffing costs and growth by evaluating staffing ratios, competencies and requirements. Assists management and physician leadership in developing short and long range plans for the practice to improve the quality of services provided. Assists with the development of operational plans and budgets, guides fiscal management of departments, and ensures that periodic and year-end goals are attained. Works as a liaison with billing, IT and other functional areas to resolve issues promptly. Ensures that all environmental issues, including biomedical and facility support, are addressed timely and appropriately. Coordinates facility changes needed to add new tests or expand operations. Maintains strictest confidentiality. Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals. Performs other duties as assigned. EDUCATION / CERTIFICATION: Bachelors of Science preferred REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of CLIA/CAP regulations regarding proficiency testing, quality assurance and quality control. Knowledge of clinical laboratory policies and procedures and laboratory standards to evaluate department and recommend improvement. Knowledge of laboratory equipment and testing to monitor quality control checks and determine needs and evaluate equipment for purchase. Knowledge of medical terminology to communicate with laboratory staff. Knowledge of safety requirements to provide instructions and recognize and correct hazardous conditions. Knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Knowledge of business methods including productivity/workload analysis and scheduling. EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Six or more years of anatomical pathology experience in a managerial role within a sizeable laboratory.
