Diesel Power Technology Teacher at the Patricia A. Hannaford Career Center

The Patricia A. Hannaford Regional Technical School District (PAHRTSD) is looking for a diesel career technical educator – or an industry expert with a desire to teach future diesel mechanics – to join our collaborative team. This position is effective starting in the fall semester of the 24/25 school year.

Job Classification: Licensed Instructional, 1 FTE

Reports to: Assistant Director, PAHRTSD

Location: PAHCC North Campus, 372 Mainelli Rd, Middlebury VT 05753

Work Schedule: School calendar / 187 contracted days per year

Starting date: August 19, 2024

General Description:

The Diesel Power Technology Teacher’s role is to create a well-rounded, comprehensive diesel program for students at Addison County’s Career Technical Education Center. You will be responsible for providing support to the students and to the instructional process within the classroom and other assigned areas in a way that will be creative and interesting to the students. Applicants should be fluent with current industry processes, and forward-thinking to prepare students for the future of work.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Three or more years’ experience in a diesel shop
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency in professional software such as Google Workspace/Microsoft Office
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
  • Professionalism with young people and members of the public
  • Lifelong learner and ability to learn new technologies
  • Ability to obtain VT AOE’s Teacher License
  • Associate's degree strongly preferred but not required
  • High degree of organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or teaching certificate
  • Experience in diesel engine theory, IMMR, hydraulics, steering and suspension, drive trains, air brakes, electrical, diagnosis, and repair.
  • Leadership experience
  • Experience working with or mentoring teenagers

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Follow program curriculum. Topics include:
  • Maintain a productive and supportive classroom using effective classroom management skills.
  • Create daily lessons and prepare materials and classroom for class activities aligned with VT AOE/CCTC proficiency standards.
  • Prepare, administer, and grade assessments and assignments in order to evaluate students’ progress.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss students’ progress and to determine their priorities for their children and their resource needs.
  • Provide differentiated instruction, student engagement, quality pacing and rigor throughout lessons taught.
  • Attend professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Plan and supervise class projects, field trips, visits by guest speakers, and guide students in learning from those activities.
  • Select, store, order, issue, inventory and maintain classroom and shop equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Prepare and manage the program budget. (Student account and enterprise account.)
  • Advise SkillsUSA Career Technical Student Organization and FFA CTSO and assist students with preparation for their competitions. Occasional travel to support students for these competitions.
  • Maintain and engage an advisory board of relevant Addison County employers.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities as assigned.
