Patrick Engineering, a RINA company, is currently seeking a Project Manager - Highway. This is an amazing opportunity to be a critical member of a regional design team as it expands nationally. The position is primarily focused on IL projects, but future opportunities in other states will be available to motivated and technically competent candidates.
Job Summary
The Project Manager (Highway) is part of Patrick's Transportation Division within the Highway Group. The right person will be responsible for managing IDOT, county, local municipality and/or ISTHA Phase I/II design projects. Current Projects that the candidate is anticipated to be able to manage range in a Patrick budget of $0.5 - $2 million (Design fee only).
The right candidate will be able to interface with clients, lead the design team in the development and delivery of the project deliverables within the budget parameters, ensure the design developments follows Patrick's quality control process, and manage the design delivery schedule with the client expectations all while growing professionally. A key element of the role is to be able to communicate with staff to identify the sequence of design development to ensure the logical progression of the work and avoid unnecessary design revisions within the allotted time for the completion of those activities. The candidate must understand how to compile deliverable documents in compliance with IDOT procedures.
The Project Manager (Highway) will work with staff and project engineers from multiple disciplines, if required by the project scope, including but not limited to structures, drainage, geotechnical, survey and electrical; communicate with subconsultants to ensure they are contributing and delivering as planned and be responsible for the oversight of the work being done per the project scope, schedule and budget as negotiated with clients.
The project manager's insight and communication with the client is a vital input on the strategic direction and success of the Division. This individual is encouraged to develop and maintain relationships with clients on on-going active and future projects / opportunities.
This individual will report to the Highway Practice Leader for technical and staffing matters and Division Operations on project financial performance.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating all aspects of a project including:
    • Monitoring the compliance between Patrick's work with the Contract's scope
    • Monitoring the compliance between Patrick's level of effort and the Contract's budget
    • Developing the project schedule in compliance with the Client's needs and tracking the compliance with the established schedule.
    • Developing staff plans and forecasting the level of effort required to complete design tasks.
    • Reviewing and reporting Project financial performance on a monthly basis
    • Maintaining Project file organization
    • Documenting critical project decisions, design development, client interactions and other factors they may impact scope, schedule, budget
  • Follows all internal processes and procedures as it relates to the above responsibilities
  • Facilitates the development of solutions to technical problems that could impede a project's successActs as the primary interface to both the client and technical teams
  • Develops and mentors team members
  • Keeps the client appraised of project status on a regular basis, at a minimum through monthly progress reporting and other deliberate interactions
  • Demonstrates technical and professional engineering skills commensurate with years of experience
  • Coordinates with other engineers and support staff during assignments, studies, and preliminary and final plan preparation for conformance to standards and code requirements
  • Ensures that the company safety, quality and technical policies and procedures are practiced during the execution of team projects
  • Demonstrates a proactive, collaborative approach with project team members, client representatives, subconsultants, contractors, review agencies and others as appropriate for the project
  • Assists with other duties as assigned by managers within the practice
Professional Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering required.
  • Professional Engineering License (IL) is required.
  • 8 years of experience
  • Experience managing a project following IDOT Local Roads design approval and/or letting schedule, strongly preferred.
  • Prior project management experience and/or leadership role experience on large or more complex projects is required
  • Prior experience managing roadway projects in IL is required
  • Strong computer skills, specifically in the area of MicroStation, Microsoft Office and relevant software
  • Strong technical written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate technical design concepts
Additional Requirements:
  • Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license
  • Travel (i.e. client sites) may be required based upon business need
