HSE Manager
The HSE Manager plans and conducts activities concerned with the health, safety and environmental factors of this large-scale construction project for a hazardous waste incinerator.
The position is for a project and will receive project term agreement & benefits.
- Immediate start – completion estimated Q4 2024
- Estimated work week consists of minimum 40 hours, up to 50 hours onsite
- Minimum 40 hours per week to be billed
- Per diem billed 7 days/week
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supports the development and realization of a “Zero Incident” culture in a way that serious injuries are prevented and best in class HSE performance is achieved.
- Collaborates with the Project Team to develop a culture of HSE excellence.
- Advises the project management team on HSE issues.
- Ensures compliance by all parties with Company’s HSE requirements and regulations and all relevant legislation and statutory requirements.
- Ensures all actions, work and services undertaken are in accordance with the respective customer agreement.
- Monitors the construction activities making sure that these are executed as per the HSE plan, procedures, and best practices.
- Monitors the site activities with inspection visits for all areas, identifying potential hazards and recommending solutions for unsafe conditions.
- Develop and review HSE Action plan keeping project management fully informed on how HSE is promoting a culture of safety.
- Ensure that Project HSE programs and procedures are implemented, reviewed and improved as needed.
- Provide HSE functional guidance, auditing, training and participation in meetings with Contractor and HSE professionals.
- Develop and implement an HSE Training Process for project team members.
- Establish, maintain and report on HSE performance measures.
- Develop and implement an HSE Audit Process and Plan.
- Assist in risk assessments and preparation of method statements for construction activities.
- Assist in the investigation of all accidents, incidents, and near misses. Maintains a log of these investigations, ensures reports are issued internally.
Professional Requirements:
- A Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field of study. Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of education.
- 8-10 years’ experience as an HSE Manager working at an incinerator, refinery, processing plant or large utility systems.
- HSE, OSHA, NEBOSH or related certification
- Ability to implement an HSE program for a construction project.
- Experience in preparing risk assessments and method statements for construction activities.
- Strong knowledge of ISO standards. Auditor accreditation a plus
- Recognized Safety and Fire Fighting management qualification in an operating environment
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work well with construction engineers, facility operators, contractors, and vendors.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Adaptable to change.
- Strong problem solving skills
