Overview
The Student Success Manager is responsible for providing a safe and supportive environment for identified students and providing additional help with academic, behavioral, and social challenges. S/he provides academic and behavioral monitoring for identified students. S/he embraces the school’s Developmental Designs philosophy and works within that philosophy to help our students grow socially, emotionally, and academically.
Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely with teachers, including special educators, staff, and administration to create and implement a tailored support program for students identified for entry into the Safety Net program, who struggle with academic and behavioral challenges
- Provide support services to augment those that students are already receiving. The Student Success Manager will provide, among other things:
- Academic monitoring
- Group and individual tutoring sessions
- Behavior intervention services including time out and counseling
- Frequent contact as necessary with parents, family, significant others
- Academic intervention services
- Frequent communication/collaboration with teachers
- Team-building
- Advisory
- Serve as part-time advisor and “home base” for these students, checking in with them each morning to help them prepare for school, and checking, in with them at the end of the day on each day and plan for the next day; giving strategies on how best to approach work and interact with peers and teaching staff
- Responsible for providing a safe and supportive environment where these students can receive additional help with academic behavioral and social challenges. This work includes creating, setting up, and maintaining the space/classroom, working with students in the space, monitoring their progress, and communicating to all related parties
- Work in conjunction with teachers and administration to ensure that necessary services for students are in place and our revised as needed
- Implement a successful workspace for students in in-school suspension including:
- Creating expectations and routines
- Setting up the space
- Ensuring all necessary materials are in place at a hotel
- Communicating expectations to students and staff
- Supervising students in the space
- Follow up with staff regarding students in the space
- Working with the behavior backup team to improve systems
- Communicating effectively with the faculty and staff on the status of students
- Meet with the behavior backup and leadership team to create, refine, and revise behavioral systems to support our students
- Serve on the behavioral backup as assigned
- Conduct functional behavioral assessments
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university, required
- 3 or more years of experience working with students with academic and behavioral challenges
- Skilled at collaboratively creating systems, structures, and plans to support students’ growth
- Demonstrates deep respect and caring for students
- Ability to provide a structured routine and hold students to high expectations
- Excellent listening skills, with colleagues, students, and families
- Excellent observational skills and “noticing” skills (the ability to observe and notice issues and trends as they emerge in small ways)
- Maintains calm even when confronted by stressful situations
- Collaborative problem solver
- Ability to multitask with ease, to prioritize tasks, and to re-prioritize in the face of changing conditions
- Trained in Developmental Designs, or willingness to attend training and learn and embrace these strategies
- Experience working with urban and at-risk youth, preferred
- National background check (after offer)
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
