Position Summary
Supervises and is responsible for coordination of nursing service in the absence of the Supervisor of Nursing/Director, Patient Care Services. Is in charge of the unit for the shift and all activities are reported to him/her.
Responsibilities
Stewardship:
- Responsible for managing, supervising and assisting the nursing staff, as well as providing administrative support and patient care while adhering to policies, procedures, and guidelines, to meet the needs of the hospital.
- Actively participates and contributes to staffing meeting and documents changes as necessary.
- Oversees completion of unit specific tasks (i.e. POCT controls, narcotic counts, crash cart checks).
- Assures the department including patient care environment is maintained in a clean and safe manner for employees and patients. Assures necessary equipment and supplies are maintained to perform such duties/service.
- Minimizes waste of supplies, misuse of equipment, and reports any knowledge thereof to supervisor.

- Demonstrates leadership knowledge and skills required to coordinate, supervise, and participate in clinical practice and resource management activities. Activities are implemented in a proactive, organized manner that indicates informed critical thinking skills and the ability to prioritize.

Qualifications
Education/Experience: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; BSN preferred, ADN required; knowledge of general nursing theory and practice required; knowledge of principles, methods and techniques involved in performing general nursing services and adapting or modifying standards of nursing practices for care of specific medical cases.
Certificates and Licenses: Current Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Kansas or current multistate license from a Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) member state; BLS required; ACLS, PALS, TNCC certification required or must obtain within (6) six months of hiring. Additional training preferred includes CPI training, Crucial Conversation class, Charge Nurse Book Read, Staffing meeting Education.
