FUNCTION:

With limited supervision of the Maintenance supervisory function or designee, an Electro-Mechanical Technician with a Mechanical Concentration or Electrical Electronic concentration is expected to apply mechanical/electrical/electronic theory and related knowledge to ensure reliable and safe operations of machines, shop, or general building and grounds assets, with an emphasis on mechanical applications.

Typical tasks are those necessary to the preventive and emergency maintenance, upkeep and cleanliness of site assets. Tasks can be technical or nontechnical in nature, require significant judgment, and can vary based on anticipated or unanticipated circumstances. Willingness to learn and an ability to follow directions and obey protocol are required.

A certain level of physical fitness is required for activities that can require one or more of the following: walking, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting, bending, squatting, kneeling, twisting, reaching, pushing and pulling, grasping, and fine manipulation.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

  • General - Follow verbal and written instructions to troubleshoot, repair and/or install production equipment including motors, generators, pneumatic equipment, hydraulic equipment, clutches, bearings, pumps, automated and computer controlled equipment and other devices following elementary logic/wiring diagrams, pneumatic and hydraulic diagrams and equipment manuals. Assignments may require work in cramped and/or elevated locations using ladder, man lifts, and boom truck.
  • Equipment / Tools - Use various types of test equipment including, but not limited to: oscilloscope, amp meter, IR thermography camera, alignment tools, ultrasound meter. Use of site systems, including department CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) and LMS (Learning Management System). Operate appropriate hand/power tools and shop equipment including, but not limited to: electric drill, drill press, lathe, mill, grinder, conduit bender, pipe cutter (welding skills and HVAC knowledge are a plus). General knowledge and capabilities related to control logic as needed to properly troubleshoot and maintain equipment. Application of various joining/welding techniques.
  • Licenses / Certifications and Task Specific Training - Must be able to maintain a valid forklift license. May be required to train for, obtain, and maintain licenses, permits, and certifications within the assigned area or function. Continued development of applicable skills and abilities is expected for consideration of placement into higher level positions in the trade or the organization.
  • Work Orders and PM Activities - Perform assignments following specified procedures and written instructions to assure safe and efficient operations of site assets, including assigned PMs and other Work Orders.
  • Training of Others - As appropriate and defined by the Maintenance supervisory function or designee, assist in the development and training of Trades Assistants and junior level positions in the Electro-Mechanical Technician trade.
  • Fluid Management - Maintain coolant/oil levels, inventory, records and concentrations for assigned machines/equipment which are not serviced by Operations personnel daily maintenance checks. Management will assign & prioritize when necessary.
  • Continuous Improvement - As assigned, support site continuous improvement or Lean based initiatives to increase overall efficiencies - within own function, or in support of other shop functions. Actively participate in various aspects of Continuous Improvement projects which may include but is not limited to 5S, TPM, kaizen events, and set-up reduction events, which is aligned with the commitment to continuous improvement activities in Article II of the collective bargaining agreement. Propose improvements as observed during execution of assigned tasks.
  • Environmental Health and Safety - Must work safely at all times. Appropriate PPE (including but not limited to foot, eye, hand, and ear eye protection) is to be properly worn as defined by general site or job specific requirements. Participate in safety improvement initiatives by raising any safety concerns and helping to come up with corrective actions. Observe, comply, and actively practice/participate in OSHA and/or company based programs and training. Identify, recommend, and participate in opportunities to improve environmental health and safety practices throughout the site.
  • General Communication and Expectations - Good communication skills (verbal and documented as required by site systems/procedures) and a positive attitude are required. Technicians are expected to take personal responsibility for remaining productive during the entirety of each daily shift. Technicians should at all times be good representatives of PCX and the Maintenance team, both in the performance of their duties and in interactions with colleagues and non-PCX resources that are on site. Must refer difficulties experienced to leader or supervisor as appropriate and in a timely manner.
  • Other Duties - May be assigned to carry out tasks, not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description in support of department or site objectives and to develop individuals' skills.
