Kitchen Assistant

• A safe place for street people to find respite during the day
• A daily 45-minute meditation, an open dialogue in which community members are encouraged to participate in the topic selected for the day
• Most importantly, a place where people are heard, a place where they can express their cares and concerns without being judged.

• All employees are required to notify the Program Director ahead of time when they are running late or will not attend work. Notice should be given as early as possible.

• Maintain a hygienic work space in accordance with Minnesota Food Handler requirements.
• Lift loads of 20 pounds on a regular basis; occasionally lift loads of up to 50 pounds.
• Work independently and as part of a team.
• Prioritize duties to ensure smooth operation of the kitchen.
• Help fill in for the Cook as needed, including planning and preparing nutritious meals over several consecutive days.
• Create a welcoming environment.
• Treat all community members fairly without favoritism, discrimination, etc.
• Remain calm in stressful interpersonal interactions.
• Represent PHC in a professional manner.
• Pass a Department of Human Services background check to work with vulnerable populations.

• Ensuring an adequate supply of clean cups, plates, silverware, etc. for community members throughout the day.
• Ensuring sanitary conditions in food preparation and service areas.
• Keeping food and supply storage areas in hygienic and orderly manner.
• Rotating stock to minimize food waste.
• Assisting Cook in planning and preparing meals as needed.
• Assisting Cook in properly storing food donations.
• Notifying the Program Director of potential hazards, kitchen needs or other items that need attention.
• Monitoring and controlling access to non-public areas of the building.
• Ensuring that community members feel welcome and safe while on PHC premises.
• Assist community members in behaving appropriately to avoid having to ban them from PHC.
• Ensure that volunteers and guests have an enjoyable and worthwhile experience.
• Ensure the building and facilities are safe and secure.
• Other duties as assigned.

• $20 per hour.
• Three weeks PTO per year.
• Six paid holidays.
• This position is wage earning and non-exempt.
• In the event of disagreement between this offer letter and the Employee Handbook, the Employee Handbook shall take precedence.
