Peace Lutheran Preschool & Daycare (PLPD) is currently accepting applications for all levels of our teaching staff: lead teachers, assistant teachers, and caregivers.
Primary Functions: Through a cooperative partnership between parents, staff, and Peace Lutheran Church, our mission is to nurture children, to develop positive strengths, ethics, and skills necessary to fulfill God’s purpose for their lives and to meet the challenges of our world.
Purpose: Teachers at PLPD share a wide range of responsibilities as differing levels. Teachers are hired based on qualifications, and are provided opportunities for advancement to address the needs of enrollment, and the school.
DESCRIPTIONS OF POSITIONS
Lead Teachers are responsible for: 1) developing and implementing developmentally appropriate, open-ended curriculum that fosters a lifetime love of learning through Christian principals; 2) continuous communication with parents regarding the development and progress of each child at an individual level; 3) mentoring fellow staff should the need present itself.
Assistant Teachers are responsible for: 1) assisting the lead teacher in the implementation of the educational program; 2) maintaining effective working relationships with other staff, parents, and children.
Caregivers are responsible for: 1) assisting in PLPD as needed and determined by the directors; 2) maintaining a relationship with other staff, parents, and children.
Minimum Qualifications (qualification vary depending on level):
- High School Diploma or GED.
- No criminal conviction of a felony, violent crime or any crime involving moral turpitude, child abuse or neglect.
- Communicate clearly orally and in written English.
Desired Qualifications:
- An associate’s degree in early childhood education or a Child Development Associates (CDA); or a Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field or equivalent experience
- Experience in a professional early childhood setting
- Current Texas Food Handler’s Card
- Current First Aid and CPR training.
- Spanish language skills
Reporting Structure: Overall leadership of the school and its employees is the responsibility of the Peace Lutheran Preschool and Daycare School Board and the Pastor of Peace Lutheran Church.
Responsibilities for all positions include:
- Promote a professional image and help to implement the goal of being the most effective operation possible.
- Demonstrate commitment and a working knowledge of the guidelines for an early childhood center established by the TDFPS, and maintain training requirements in accordance with PLPD and state licensing.
- Follow and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum in the classroom including:
- Follow the daily schedule provided.
- Maintain records of each child’s development through work samples, anecdotal notes, observations, progress reports and any other form of communication with parents, in collaboration with the lead teacher.
- Coordinate and attend special events.
- Utilize developmentally appropriate materials and equipment.
- Arrange the classroom in learning centers to provide engaging and self-directed learning activities to meet the learning objectives.
- Provide continuous supervision of children in your care and implement and abide by all safety and security precaution established by the center. Adhere strictly to the Discipline and Guidance Policy.
- Perform other duties as assigned. Including but not limited to: attending meetings, trainings, open houses, student’s programs and fundraisers.
