Unlicensed Medication Aide (UMA)

Reports to: DON

Job Classification: Hourly (Non Exempt Status)

Minimum Qualifications: Must be at least a high school graduate or equivalent and at least 18 years old. CNA certification preferred. An active and unencumbered medication administration South Dakota license is required; however, willing to train for the right candidate.

General Requirements: We are seeking caregivers to provide assistance with activities of daily living that are compassionate, respectful and patient to the residents, and possess a sincere desire to enhance the quality of life for the people that live here.

  1. Employee must be capable of showing good judgment and ensure that Peaceful Pines Senior Living will provide a safe, comfortable, and secure living environment for the residents.
  2. Must be able to read and write English at an adult level. Must be able to communicate clearly in English in person, and on the phone.
  3. Employee must be able to lift, push or pull at least 50 lbs. without risk of injury.
  4. Employee must pass mandatory background check.
  5. Because Peaceful Pines Senior Living is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, staff is required to work shifts scheduled and that will include every other weekend, and at least half of the holidays Peaceful Pines Senior Living recognizes. (See employee manual for listed holidays.)
  6. Employee must be willing to undergo on the job training before working with clients.
  7. Employee must be flexible and willing to adapt to changing situations in a professional manner.
  8. Employees are required to have a happy nature and a positive attitude.
  9. Employee must arrive for work on time and is ready to work at the time of the start of the shift. Follows meal/break guidelines.
  10. Employee must follow Peaceful Pines Senior Living policies and procedures.
  11. Employee must be efficient and well organized.
  12. Employee must take ownership of their job duty checklist.
  13. The employee must be neat, clean, and adhere to the tobacco free policy.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:

  • Assist with bathing, dressing or grooming.
  • Assist with ambulation and light exercise.
  • Make beds
  • Do Laundry
  • Serve meals
  • Prepare dining room for meals and clean up dining room after meals.
  • Assist with washing dishes and putting away clean dishes.
  • Provide companionship and supervise resident activities.
  • Must always treat clients with complete respect and cooperation-no exceptions.
  • Assist with any needs of clients first, answer call pendants as soon as possible.
  • Immediately report any significant resident changes to supervisor.
  • Perform all duties that have been detailed on the "Shift Duties" schedule
  • Perform all duties required on the "Weekly Task Schedule"
  • Be able to take direction and corrective advice.
  • Be able to fill in on shifts when needed and be available and dependable.
  • Be available on weekends and holidays.
  • It is a requirement to show up to your scheduled shift. If you are unable to do so, it is your responsibility to find your own replacement. Your replacement must be approved by administration.
  • To help prepare for special events at Peaceful Pines Senior Living such as holiday parties, birthday parties or musical events.
  • Ideally be trained to do two different shifts.
  • To be able to follow all guidelines of infection control, wearing gloves at appropriate times, frequent hand washing and use of sanitizing gel.
  • Document caregiver, communications notes, and progress chart notes.
  • Employee must complete written, oral, or practical test of all assisted living services the UMA will perform.
  • Be present for all monthly staff meetings 100% of the time. Receive all mandatory required annual training. Medication Aide - Initial training and competency.
  • In-service training & demonstration of competency
  • For each 12 months of employment, a caregiver must complete at least 8 hours of in-service training in topics relevant to services being provided.
  • If a person has not performed care services for a continuous period of 24 consecutive months (verifiable by documentation), demonstration of competence to the RN is required.
  • Assist with jobs delegated by Administrator, DON, or RN.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift fifty (50) pounds.
  • Moving, lifting or transferring of patients may involve lifting of up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull or carry patients.
  • Ability to use abdominal and lower back muscles over time without fatigue
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of 2/3 shift.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, sit, and reach.
  • Fine motor skills.
  • Visual acuity.

The employee is frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach forward with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and may occasionally lift or move 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Physical Demand Ratings are an estimate of the overall strength requirements that are considered to be important for an average, successful work performance of a specific job. In order to classify the occupation of a worker with a physical demand rating, the most strenuous and frequently performed tasks are evaluated. The overall physical demand rating for this position falls within the Medium classification according to the Dictionary of Occupational Titles. However, due to the population of our facility, this position has been classified as Heavy (exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects).

COMPENSATION/HOURS/BENEFITS:

  • Full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours per week generally with a weekend and holiday rotation
  • Flexible schedule
  • $15.00-$18.00/hour depending on experience
