Summary
The OR RN Circulator provides circulating nurse services in the operating room during surgical or pain management procedures and assists the surgical team as needed in any other capacity, according to established procedures.
Location: Sandy Springs
Schedule: 10-hour shifts; NO ON-CALL OR WEEKENDS!
Job Type: PRN; as needed
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures care of patient through proper identification, checking of chart, and reporting of changes in condition.
- Assists scrub nurse as necessary.
- Positions patient, prepares operative area, and adjusts table to proper position according to standard policies.
- Has all supplies and equipment in room and provides to team as necessary.
- Opens all sterile packs and supplies according to aseptic technique.
- Maintains count of sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no loss of items according to present policy.
- Identifies physical symptoms and changes and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.
- Coordinates patient care with staff in preoperative area and PACU.
- Accompanies patient to PACU and reports to nurse on patient and procedure to ensure continuity of care.
- Provides for continuity of individual patient care.
- Assists in preoperative area and PACU as needed.
- Assists in control and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
- Assists with maintenance of records and statistics.
- Assists in establishment and maintenance of procedures, policies, and standards.
- Duties may go beyond solely providing direct patient care
Qualifications

Education and Experience
- Graduate of accredited School of Nursing Previous.
- OR Circulator experience required.
- Ambulatory Care experience preferred.
- Orthopaedic experience preferred.
- Conscious sedation experience preferred.
Licensing and Certifications
- This individual must be currently licensed to practice professional nursing in the State of Georgia and must be familiar with the basic nursing performance standards as outlined in the Georgia Nurse Practice Act.
- Certification in CPR, ACLS required.
Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrates ability to assist surgeons, anesthesia personnel and other personnel as necessary.
- Demonstrates ability to formulate an individualized plan of care as indicated and evaluates for effectiveness.
- Willing to function in multiple roles and wear many hats at any given time.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to multi-task.
