Position Title: Echo / Vascular Technician

Department: Imaging

Wage Range: DOE

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position report to: Office Manager

General Description

Organizes, performs, and records high quality, safe vascular ultrasounds that require ingenuity, initiative and independence judgement, as ordered by physicians. Performs prescribed procedures in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures, and protocols. Ensures optimal care and treatment of the patient population.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Performs procedures by following and verifying the referring providers’ orders. Uses independence judgement and applies learned methodologies according to established policies and procedures.
  • Educages patients and families regarding the procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.
  • Produces high quality images and presents them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation. Prepares and maintains accurate documentation.
  • Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures if applicable in accordance with established policies.
  • Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel, and visitors. Adheres to safe policies.
  • Accountable for ethical, legal, and professional responsibilities related to the practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.
  • Assures the efficient operation of workflow of the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services.
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards. Provides all customers of Peak Heart and Vascular with an excellent service experience by consistently demonstrating our performance standards each and every day.
  • Communicates results to physicians and responds to questions and concerns.
  • Monitors, records, and communicates as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems.
  • Monitors patient’s comfort and safety during tests, alerting physicians to abnormalities or changes in patient’s response.
  • Utilizes knowledge of age-specific needs of patients in performance of duties and responsibilities.
  • Orients and mentors new staff members.
  • Assists with transporting patients.
  • Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Requires national certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers and/or licensure by the state regulatory agency if applicable. Advance certification by accrediting body in specialty, RVT or equivalent for Vascular, RCS or equivalent for echo required within 18 months of hire if applicable. BLS certification required.
  • Requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with 2 years of experience.
  • Effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.
  • Customer service abilities including effective listening skills.
  • Critical thinking skills, decisive judgement and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, kneeling, moving, lifting of patients and/or equipment up to 75lbs.
  • Possess physical agility and adequate reaction time to respond quickly and appropriately to unexpected patient care needs.
  • Needs adequate hearing and visual acuity, including adequate color vision. Requires fine motor skills, adequate eye-hand coordination, and ability to grasp and handle objects.
  • Some travel may be required.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • While performing duties of the job, employees are occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands and fingers; talk and hear.
  • Employees must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The noise level of the work environment is usually moderate.
