POSITION MISSION: To deliver programming that offers growth and meaningful progression for youth during the summer.
REPORTING AND RELATIONSHIPS
You will report to the Assistant Director of Youth Programs and works with youth in grades 1-8.
POSITION AVAILABILITYJune through August; Monday-Friday; works at the Milwaukee Day Camp location.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
As a key member of the Day Camp Team, you are the leader of our summer Makerspace, a space where our campers work on hands-on S.T.E.A.M. projects that enhance, extend and deepen the day camp curriculum.
Your responsibilities will include:
Facilitating hands-on projects with campers and team-teaching with camp counselors; setting up the makerspace for each workshop experience; managing the inventory of equipment and supplies; developing teaching and monitoring makerspace procedures and safety protocols.
You will participate in curriculum development with Assistant Director of Youth Programs and camp coordinators
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

You have a firm grasp on elementary-level pedagogy.
You must be a flexible and collaborative team member who can support, inspire and motivate others.
You believe that with the right supports and access to quality programs and experiences, all young people are able to achieve at the highest level imaginable.
You must be comfortable speaking and communicating with campers and staff and act as a role model for campers at all times.
You remain calm under duress and able to make critical decisions in a quick and logical manner to minimize risk and to ensure safety and well-being of participants and fellow staff.
A bilingual (English & Spanish) speaker preferred but not required.
CERTIFICATIONS
Valid CPR and First Aid certification is required for this position (PEAK can support in attaining).
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
You have experience serving youth facing social and/or economic hurdles; you are comfortable working with diverse populations and as a member of a diverse multidisciplinary team.
You have a minimum of two years experience in effective teaching through facilitating/leading hands-on learning experiences.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Competitive weekly rate, commensurate with experience.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS
Day Camp programming is in constant motion—campers and staff are interacting and moving for activities throughout the day, indoor and outdoor.You must have the ability to maintain a positive attitude under adverse conditions or situations.You may spend a large portion of the day outdoors and may remain standing or on your feet for long periods of time.
